I get so sick of this nonsense. I took my child to a playground at a public park today and we were having a great time until someone showed up with a large, barely controlled dog. It was dragging the woman holding the leash all over the place and barking at people and other dogs. At first they kept the dog around the periphery of the playground but eventually brought it onto the playground near the kids. I get that people may want to bring the family dog along to the playground, but if your dog is barely under your control and barking and snarling like crazy, why would you do this? It seemed like a ticking time bomb to me so I left a lot earlier than I had planned on.

| Cool story bro. |
This sounds strangely close to another recent post. |
| Most playgrounds have signs stating that pets are prohibited. Dogs don’t belong on playgrounds unless they’re service dogs. |
| I have been going to playgrounds for years and I can’t think of a time of an uncontrolled dog. |
Ha! I actually thought of that post in the moment but this wasn’t a trainer, it was clearly a family that had brought their poorly trained dog with them. |
|
We had a problem with off-leash dogs at our neighborhood park. I wrote and called the city including the mayor. They posted signs and added security guard handing out $250 citations.
Off leash dogs and little kids are an accident waiting to happen. Don’t be afraid to ask parents with dogs to please leash their dog outside the playground. |
You’re lucky. I’ve seen kids knocked down and once bitten. Dogs have no place in playgrounds. Keep them away from kids, swings, slides, etc. There are enough green parks for leashed dogs. Don’t bring your dog to school drop off or pick up either. |
| In DC I have seen people bring dogs onto the school playgrounds and let the dogs lap up water from the children's water fountains. I imagine if the dog pooped on the playground turf, the owner would pick it up... but isn't that gross anyway. The dog owners run the dogs on kids' athletic fields! They walk straight past the "no dogs on athletic fields" sign, because they are very special people with special dogs, and rules do not apply to them. It's disgusting. Dog owners seem really thoughtless to me, whether the dog is aggressive or not. |
+1. Anyone who lets their dog run around a playground is a pig and a bad dog owner. Period. |
But you can't imagine someone thinking their dog is "so sweet" and "won't bite?" If people try to bring their dogs into restaurants [and I have witnessed this] then I am not surprised by this story. |
| I went to a park with a fenced in playground and this woman was using it to run her dog around and seemed annoyed when we wanted to go in to use the swings. It's clearly not a dog park. No kid gets to monopolize the whole fenced in playground why do you think your dog should be able to? |
Haha. |
| So glad I left the DC area! I'd take my dogs over you judgy curmudgeons any day! My kids agree! |
| Other than posting the 99th vent on here about dogs on the playground, did you ask the dog's owner to move the dog off the playground? Did you call the park police? Did you firmly tell the dog "off!" or "down"? Or are you posting just to have more stars in your martyr's crown? |
