Mary Cheh not running for re-election?

She was also very responsive if you reached out directly to her office. I did not do it often and only for things that were critical and I felt she could help with. Finally, I loved that she had integrity and was fighting for things she thought were right. I didn't always agree but at least I didn't have to worry about any Jack Evans shenanigans! I'm glad for her sake she is retiring - she seemed to hate all the social things she had to show up at as council member. Plus, she actually does her own yard work - now she'll have more time for that too

abolishing gas leaf blowers is a HUGE quality of life as well as environmental issue, particularly in a time when more people are working from home. not frivolous

I did not say "frivolous" - I said "meaningless to some". If you have read some of the leaf blower wars on Next Door you know what I am referring to.

What’s going down is that she got cancelled for speaking out about crime.

That's exactly how democracy works: an elected official says something that doesn't represent people's views and that elected official no longer has the support of people. Call it "cancelled" if you want, I call it being responsive to voters.

She would have won reelection in a landslide had she run again. Anyone who thinks otherwise is completely misinformed about DC politics. Her comments probably added to her potential votes in Ward 3.

Her comments were sound. What on earth was their to disagree/get upset about with? Her comment about around here or whatever? She's was speaking as a local rep + her comments about crime in Ward 3 we're spot on. I would like to see more of that fire. Hope she keeps commenting until her term is up. She did well and we need someone who will serve (as she did) as a counterpoint to the far far far left seating section in the DC Council. Thanking Mary Cheh for her service.

Here’s what the WCP had to say. Obviously Twitter was even crazier. The response to her comments was totally unhinged.

TIL the City Paper still exists. They still have hooker ads in the back?

Craigslist killed that business.

Craigslist killed that business.

And FOSTA killed the online advertising.

Monika Nemeth already had announced her candidacy last year.

It's going to be a crowded field.

Nemeth was originally trying to primary Cheh. Absolutely zero chance to win.

Sounds like some good people getting into this race. Teresa Duncan and Matthew Frumin are both worthy.

Ben Bergman, Phil Thomas, and Beau Finley also sound like they're entering

Vote David Krucoff who is running as a Republican if you care at all about public safety, and making sure DC council isn't just a groupthink body cow towing to the far left activists.

No thanks David. Try in another place. DC doesn't like Maryland carpetbaggers.

Nice try, but I'm just a supporter. I'll support anyone who brings some diversity of thought onto the DC council and a desire to actually make DC government more efficient instead of trying to solve every problem with no bid contracts or tax increases.

And you think this guy has the chops or experience to do it? Good luck with that.

Just about anyone could do a better job than the woketivists on the council now. He has experience working with small businesses which are in dire shape in DC right now. If you want this city hollowed out keep supporting the defund MPD crowd.

Towing cows? That's something you don't see in DC every day. Can you send me a photo?

Face it, anyone registered as a republican has zero chance in DC. Add to it, this guy is running on a NIMBY platform. So he is an any business republican. Go figure.
