It really depends on your specific office. I work for the fed and in my agency there are a few women who dress very well, and luxury handbags would look natural on them, but nobody carries anything full of logos. Some young women will carry goyard totes instead of LVs. |
I would not notice the specifics of a handbag. Carry what you want!
Also, if I were to compliment you on your bag or somehow randomly notice that it's special - no need to justify it!! |
This applies to life in general. You know your coworkers and customers. If a luxury item would stand out and send the wrong message, then don't wear/take it. |
LOL!! |
Thirty dollar fake from Aliexpress? Color of the canvas, pattern neatness at the seams, and the (p)leather trim. $150 from a decent factory? You’d need a tape measure, magnifying glass, and an auth reference bag six inches away. |
I had a terrible experience once with this...I was hosting a candidate who flew out to our corporate headquarters to interview. Due to logistics, she had to bring her luggage to the office. She was carrying a LV roller bag and a LV Neverfull for as a carry on bag. It was too much. Honestly, the branded luggage was a distraction from her qualifications and I felt badly for her. She did not get the job. It was a know your audience type of thing. |
If it had been Tumi or Rimowa, it would have been totally fine. LV was just too logo-ish & considered showy by some of the executives who were interviewing her. |
It's all about context. I know someone who is a special ed teacher in a Title I school who wears a Rolex. That's a little extreme to me, but I am sure the kids aren't noticing. |
I don't think it matters. I'm always amused by the news anchors who wear the Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra line of jewelry on tv. It doesn't look flashy but those necklaces as easily 10k-15k a piece. There was an anchor on Fox who isn't there anymore but she would wear 50K diamond studs while ranting. My uncle owns a jewelry store and would watch it and always comment on how much their jewelry was worth. |
How do people ask? Do they literally ask how you afford your bag? And you talk about how long you've had it and childcare? See I don't think you need to justify your purchases to them |
You sound extremely petty. Then again I judge for cheap shoes and clothing. |
I guess I could see this as a company culture thing, but this is a deeply stupid reason to discount a candidate you have FLOWN OUT for an interview. |
Rolexes are for Russian oligarchs. Tacky. |
It doesn’t sound like it was the poster who chose to reject her. |
I work for a consulting firm (clients are government). I don't bring my Neverfull to the client site, feel like it's not a good look. |
