Should you not carry luxury handbags at work? What impression does it give in your opinion?

I'm a man and wouldn't know the difference between a "luxury" bag and a normal one.

That said, it's probably best not to wear or bring anything ostentatious to work. I can't really see any benefit to causing distractions in the workplace. It's also probably a theft risk.

Is that true? My coworkers have carried Chanel, Louis Vuitton, etc without me thinking twice. I carry a backpack due to balance issues I have so it’s a null point for me but what do others think?

Depends what you do for a living. If you work in a modest milieu, dress modestly if you don’t want to breed resentment and as a woman, make people whine you don’t need to work for money.

A 1 carat ring is NBD.

I’m a woman and I would barely notice the difference either. I might vaguely know which brands are high-end, but don’t have any idea about actual prices.

Probably a big deal to the people the PP was doing social service outreach to, what is considered ostentatious is very dependent on the environment you’re in.

Know your audience. When I'm in a meeting with investment bankers my bottega briefcase makes an appearance. But if we're taking too affordable housing advocates it's Baggu tote day

Way more than 30% of them are fake.

What’s the giveaway that it’s fake? I don’t think I could ever tell. What do you even look for?

You can't tell. That's why it's nuts to pay for a real one.

You can’t tell 😓
My friends carry $30 fake long champ. There is 0 chance people notice stuff like that.

I work for the gov w a ton of big law formers. Some still wear their big law bags and shoes. Some don’t. Nobody cares at all. I dont think someone is rich because they have a nice bag or they’re poor because they done. I literally could not care less at work.

This is me. I wouldn’t notice your luxury purse or the class signal you’re trying to convey. I dislike carrying a purse and carry the smallest one or use pockets like men do. It feels freeing not to have that weight hanging off my shoulder.

Sounds like you live in a bubble where it’s no big deal.

I would probably notice that one - the leather on the handles is not real leather.

+1. I am an expert on poverty issues. I'm not running around work with a designer handbag.

I have in the past, and was surprised how many folks noticed (I generally come in and put it directly in my drawer and retrieve at the end of hte day). When asked I would explain that I've had them for more than a decade and long before having to pay for childcare.
