What does DCUM think are “high” stats?

More like 4:10 for men

Don’t forget you can self study. Mine with 16 did a few self-studied.

Most privates are getting out of AP.
They don’t want to compete with public.

Don’t think it’s about competition.

I know a kid who went to Sidwell who took 10 AP exams-- All self-taught because Sidwell didn't offer any AP classes. Got into Stanford. That kid obviously felt it was very important.

One kid I knew went to Harvard, took 18 APs - mostly self-study. He was in RMIB magnet.

I think taking a difficult curriculum (0-2 'regular' academic classes), having a 3.7 or above UW, and a ~1480+ SAT is high stats.

+1. Of course poster asked high "DCUM" stats. Anonymous tiger moms(dads) from McLean, Bethesda and Upper NW have their own ideas.

My senior at MCPS HS will have taken exactly 15 at graduation, including double period bio and chem. Extremely uncommon, but still attainable.

wow.. did you count double period as 2 APs? or 1?

1500 SAT/34 ACT. Basically, 99th percentile.

On top of that top 1% in school and good extracurriculars. None of this is going to get you into any Ivy unless “character traits” like race, geography etc can make admitted class as “diverse” as they are aiming for.

Cynic

Hair reality.

Hard reality.

Don’t fall for this game, just make sure your kid makes a good effort, eats well, sleeps well, enjoys learning, reads books, has ideas he is passionate about, goes on dates, learns basic accounting, learns driving, speaks and writes well, participates in sports and activities and develops good social skills. He’ll become a happy and productive person.

This is such a sad thread.

I feel badly for underachievers and late bloomers. They can be great, great stellar kids, but if they don't have the "stats" they are shat upon by DCUM-type parents.

Those idiotic tests are so incredibly stupid! Look up the history of the SAT! I can't remember all the details, but I think it was started as a way to keep Jewish kids out of Yale!

Now the College Board is a money-making scam operation. APs are the dumbest classes I've ever seen! The crap my kid learns in her AP classes taught by sub-par teachers who really couldn't get into an elite college if they sold their souls to do so.

When I went to college, colleges had a lot fewer applicants, so they could interview all of them, and choose the kids who fit their schools. I went to a "T10" college, and I never went through all the crap kids do now. I applied, interviewed and got in.

High stats? Ugh. Go away.

To be fair, if you are good at one subject you can be a good teacher, you don’t have to be an overall high achiever to teach biology. As far as Top20 admissions go, if it was solely based on academics, only MENSA members would make it.
