unweighted GPA 4.0 weighted 4.8 or higher
SAT 1500+ At least 10 AP classes, preferably 15 This kid is still likely to be Ivy rejected and T20 if lucky |
| Depends - FCPS it’s near impossible to get 15 APs and the gpa wouldn’t be that high so you have to compare apples to apples. |
| In our mcps high school 15 APs would be exceptional, but an SAT of 1500 would not. |
| 4.5+/1550+ |
| Our top private does not offer 15 APs |
| Our APS school doesn’t give extra points for “intensive” courses. Only AP courses give an extra point so really high GPAs aren’t possible. Also if you keep high school credits from middle school, those also count into your GPA (which if you’re trying to get over a 4.0 it pulls the GPA down a bit). |
| Our private does not weight APs a whole point. |
Of course, because these stats are quite common. Which suggests they are merely a baseline and it takes something else exceptional to gain admission. |
Most privates are getting out of AP. They don’t want to compete with public. |
Don’t think it’s about competition. |
Quite common? Top 5th percentile |
| Well, perfect or nearly perfect SAT/ACT, National merit, 12-15 AP courses with 5’s, 3.95-4.0 out of 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.6-5.0 out of 5.0 weighted GPA makes it high stats for anywhere. |
Both are exceptional anywhere. |
Common for applicants to the most selective schools, of course you mean. |
On top of that top 1% in school and good extracurriculars. None of this is going to get you into any Ivy unless “character traits” like race, geography etc can make admitted class as “diverse” as they are aiming for. |
