Can we bring back Jack R Smith please?

Why did Starr get the boot from BOE? I honestly cannot remember. Just the 2-sentence version, please.

I thought Curriculum 2.0 started under Weast...

(PS, I can't wait for my DC to graduate and I can stop thinking about all this stuff!!)

Agree completely. Smith did not care AT ALL.

Agree that Smith didn't GAF. It was pretty obvious when he announced his last day would be June 1, rather than June 30 / July 1. He complained that living in the pandemic was "hard" with his wife being gone helping with the grandchild. He was mentally checked out.

I guess he thought the pandemic was easy for all the kids doing Zoom school??

God, that was so frustrating. To listen people to talk about how all their children were suffering and struggling, and his responses would be about his grandchild in Maine. So insensitive.

And put it on top of his nonsense slogan of 'All means All'. Apparently not. All apparently does not include children or families that face different problems than his family.

I remember one BOE meeting where he was leaning back casually in an arm chair in his den. Like, come on man, at least have the decency to be in your office and sit properly.

It was going to be a 4-4 split vote on renewing his contract, so he resigned rather than asking for another term. Reportedly against him were Mike Durso, Jill Ortman-Fouse, Rebecca Smondrowski, and Judy Docca. He had let himself be publically named as a candidate for the NYC superintendent, and they didn't care for that...among other things.

And yes, Starr inherited Curriculum 2.0 from Weast.

Against him were all the victims of sexual abuse by John Vigna. Starr approved of leaving John Vigna in the classroom even though Vigna was lap sitting with the little girls.

I like Smith because he got rid of 2.0. Starr not so much.

I think this was meant to be sarcasm. The AFEF Magnet discrimination case was under her watch.

Just get someone new. Clean slate. This past year has been a disaster.

She also effectively stood up to Elrich on behalf of the students after her self-imposed color coding mistake. Course-correcting on that mistake in the first place was impressive leadership. Many leaders would arrogantly carry on. We saw that phenomenon last year with MCPS and DHHS leadership.

She what now? I’m going to need a link or some proof. What did Elrich have to do with that dumb system?

The missteps, miscommunication, and backtracking around the color-coding system are big reasons why Elrich said things were chaotic and the district needed to take a pause. But she/MCPS didn't buckle and kept nearly the entire district in-person.

Tell that to the families that had 1 child in ES virtual last week now a MS Sibling virtual this week. How many weeks will one take off to be home with the kids? It would have made more sense to do what PG did for all schools at same time. Less stress, nip the wave in the bud, and all subs at home at same time.

No empathy. Some of us have been doing virtual for two years because other parents are selfish and refuse to help keep it out of the schools.

Wow so easy to close the schools but so hard to open them and keep them open. She inherited a sinking ship and is trying to keep it afloat. I for one am super happy that Snith and Dr Gayles are gone. Finally we can get our kids and schools back on track and move past their idiotic decisions. Remember the roped off playgrounds? The cancelled hybrid July 2020?

Gayles and Smith were simply terrible. SO glad to see them gone.

Kudos to McKnight for trying her hardest to keep our kids in school.

I miss Jack Smith. McNight is a nightmare. I pray she doesn't get the full time job. Her combined ego and incompetence is really dangerous.

Let’s be real. It looks more like the contract with Pearson ended. That’s why the Curriculum 2.0 drivel lasted so long! And why Smith hired Hopkins at Half a million to tell him ‘this stinks.’ Might have been a rider in the contract for performance checks. Smith simply got lucky the performance rider came into play in his term or contract ended. This is hardly ‘leadership.’ But how Weast is still praised on this site is beyond appalling. Guessing it’s just union members who loved the blank check - but don’t they all give you a blank check without selling our kids (and their data) to a scammy British Multinational? McKnight will leave when she can instill a contract for shark videos in MCPS for science for her old employer Discovery Channel.

Looks like you got your wish, as the Parent Coalition (usually not a trusted/valid source) is reporting that Jack Smith is working for the company that is doing the search for the new MCPS Superintendent
