They voted 5-2 in favor for it when cases were so much higher, they know Chap Petersen will vote with the Rs to overturn the masking for anyone who wants to opt out? What about the IB trait of Principled? It would be embarrassing if they rescinded especially give that its obviously for political reasons, also they know basically no one will opt out right now due to the famous FCC shaming and social exclusion, nose up....

Its really embarrassing having my kids see such hypocritical adults in lead positions....

Keeping the off ramp on 2/14

Anyone know if they discussed ending the mask policy more broadly? What metrics they want to see in order to do that?

I caught a little of it. They didn't discuss metrics- but Noonan said that 2/14 was the beginning of the end- and that he expected to see more and more parents opting out as numbers continued to go down- plus he expected legislative and cdc guidance changes in the next few weeks. (FWIW- I think he is right about legislative, in terms of CDC guidance changes I hope he is right, but I think that is based more on speculation than any actual knowledge.)

I got word of this thread so to the anonymous people here who seem to like throwing labels around and call the incredibly hard work of parents over the course of almost 2yrs “astroturf”…. My name is Courtney and I have led this group. I’m a Mom, I’ve not been a very consistent voter tbh, and I frankly don’t give a damn about peoples political beliefs. I care about our school having sensible and up to date COVID policy that serves our children. I would be more than happy to go into great detail as to why masks are both problematic for kids and also not particularly effective but frankly, no one, including me is trying to change anyones minds about whether YOU opt to mask YOUR child. Parents only want the option to decide whether that is an appropriate decision for THEIR child. Thankfully our state legislators agree with that as well since they are passing a law about it right now. There’s nothing anti-mask or anti-vaccine about any of this… it’s pro-choice. When it comes to COVID and kids there needs to be room for nuance and individual complex personal health choices. Our group isn’t going to be shaming ANY FAMILY regardless of whether or not they chose to mask or vaccinate their child. If any of you has a problem or a question about something we are referencing whether on Facebook or Twitter, absolutely feel free to contact me. I’ll be happy to address it with you but we are all adults here and coming into anonymous forums like this to spread total nonsense is not healthy or helpful at any level in these discussions. We don’t have to agree with one another, it’s healthy to have different opinions, and I have zero problems having a direct conversation. I assure you, I am prepared and well informed. Here’s my email: clcm20unc@gmail.com Feel free to reach out.

I find it hysterical that people equate anti- vaxx with right wing nowadays. When my kid was younger anti- vaxx was very much a crunchy super liberal mom thing and come to think of I know a few of those in Arlington and they are still anti- vaxx and super liberal. Even funnier is that the covid anti- vaxxers have way more vaccines than the crunchy mom’s kids.

RWNJs are very concerned about their FREEDUMS!!!

Thank you for sharing the graphic buried in yesterday’s email. Many of us did not see the unrealistic plans to separate students without masks. We need to read Noonan’s emails closely and click on all of the links. The FCCPS shaming continues.

Thanks, i didn't see it either. ..i think Noonan is really out there now on record.....i am not a lawyer but I believe this could be taken to court based on discrimination, unlawfully segregating people--and children at that.

Any lawyers out there to chime in?

Please send in letters to the school board today. They signed up to deal with parents, who are now irate, and also the superintendent, who is acting like a nincompoop.

Apparently, he dropped his punitive "new normal" procedures and merrily went off to vacation, leaving the board to deal with the fallout. I hope they're as pissed as the parents.

The shaming never stops in FCCPS! I'm already hearing parents tell their kids that anyone who comes to school without a mask on Monday is selfish and hates teachers. There are plenty of parents who turned in the forms to give their kids the option to unmask in PE or if they just need a little mask break - are those kids going to be separated even when they're wearing a mask? Did anyone think through this "new normal" and can we please stop calling this NORMAL? This is not the new normal, this is a temporary response to a changing and evolving pandemic that even Noonan admitted on Tuesday is now endemic, despite what his punitive and likely illegal "new normal" graphic suggests.

I also don't know how they're planning to test unvaccinated kids. Are they going to force kids to upload vaccination cards to attend school? How do they know which unmasked kids are also unvaccinated? All of this is so poorly conceived that I'm having a hard time believing anyone gave this more than a 5 minute thought before sending it out. I do know with certainty that the School Board did NOT approve this message and it came as a surprise to them as well.

Noonan is a maniacal narcissist who should be out to pasture. He cares about no one but himself.

FCCPS should take a note from Saint James:

The governor’s executive order is clear on the right of parents not to have their child be subject to a mask mandate.

As directed by the Diocese of Arlington, Governor Youngkin’s Executive Order Number 2 (EO2) will be in effect for our school starting on Monday, January 24, 2022.

I understand that some of our families will greet this news with great enthusiasm while others are experiencing the opposite. Please know that every child in Saint James School will be treated with the dignity and respect due them as children of our loving God. It is my hope that the students themselves will honor the decisions made by their parents and the parents of their classmates, treating one another with respect and dignity.

Do they actually have the space in all buildings to keep the majority of their kids 6 feet apart, at least in name? If so, I hope parents who are comfortable call this and opt enough kids out to make the policy hurt.

What? Elaborate, please.
