VMPI would not do that. This was clarified a long time ago, you just don't want to acknowledge it because it guts your best argument against VMPI.

The proposal draft isn’t out yet. Detracking was circulated as an idea very early in the process. Never even made the infographic.

And then it was very clearly eliminated from consideration several months ago.

LCPS, in the name of VMPI, legitimately and actually eliminated Algebra in 6th grade for ALL students regardless of ability effective this coming school year, and made it much much harder to take it in 7th grade. These are real actual facts, and I know because I have an 8th grader under the old system and a 5th grader under the new. I told people 9 months ago this was happening, was told I was overreacting, and it’s exactly happening the way I said (and the district said) it would.

I didn’t say they were forced. They obviously wanted to - but VMPI have them cover and an excuse. It would have take way longer otherwise/

I’m not that poster but the first HS math teacher that commented. I can assure you, we have been in planning meetings discussing implementation and long term plans for about a year now. I don’t work for LCPS but these types of situations were exactly what was being discussed. The state backtracked on math levels by grade in the name of equity but some districts had already started putting plans in place. We don’t know exactly how the new classes were supposed to look, after the changes. It takes years to rework curriculum. This doesn’t happen the year it finally goes into effect.

Thank god. I remember reading the original slides on VMPI and calling my Delegate as well as the Delegate Candidates to say this was a voting issue for me. The original YouTube videos and proposal was all about detracking math and making it harder for kids to take Calculus and other higher level math classes. It was bad.

It didn’t hurt that enough parents in NoVA complained about the proposal and forced those responsible to make some drastic changes to the proposal.

I voted Democrat in the last election but I am glad to see the ridiculous proposal flushed.
