Doubtful- but there is probably a “small world” element of it. My only experience is that business execs all seem to know each other. I work for a $30B+ company and the high level execs are like politicians- they remember everyone’s name and who they are and are good at making people feel at ease.
I am not anywhere near that level, but if you put me in front of a client with 2 people from my company I’d met at dinner the night before, we could present an oral presentation for a proposal and the client would think my team was all old friends. It’s part act and part being in a profession of people who like talking to and meeting new people.
I thought I was socially awkward and shy - and then I went to my 10 and 20yr HS reunions. I talk to new people all the time and have to make small talk. It was clear to me very quickly that most people don’t have that skill. I spent the night talking to the real estate agents, financial advisors, and other schmoozers.
