But she's a data person! It's all about data! You don't need to know anything about the schools or education. Even Arlington parents are always asking for data! ![]() |
I’m totally cool with her not ever being a teacher.
We don’t need someone that’s been brainwashed to believe Lucy Caulkins reading methods and math worksheets printed off the internet are gold standard teaching methods. |
You don’t know that |
false. they are not charter schools. |
Oh gross. Is she a Lucy Caulkins supporter? That should disqualify her immediately. |
No. The pp’s are complaining that she’s never been a teacher. I’m saying that does not bother me at all since teachers around here have been brainwashed into the Lucy Caulkins methods and believing they teach math well with printouts from the internet. Having someone from outside the classroom looking at this from an analytical perspective, such as this new appointment, is a welcome change. Objectively seeing what works and what doesn’t, rather than getting caught up in the cycle of chasing ridiculous learning ‘theories’ to keep teachers engaged rather than focusing on learning that keeps students engaged. |
I don't care that she hasn't ever been a teacher but I do care greatly that she has never worked for a school system in any capacity and, therefore, has no idea what happens on a daily basis in schools. She is not from Virginia, has only lived in Virginia briefly years ago, has only had a child in a McLean public school very briefly years ago, and she is not at all versed in what Virginians need and want from the public school system. |
LOL. Interestingly her data doesn't support her appointment. |

Would you want someone without military experience to be in charge of defense? Someone without a medical background to be in charge of the Virginia Department of Health? |
OMG you really thing that TEACHERS want something to do with Lucy Caulkins or don’t want to do what works objectively. You must work at a small employer to not know how very large businesses and bureaucracies work. |
It's this. In math it's really fun that the APS "curriculum" doesn't even try to give resources for some of it's standards. |
I’m a secondary teacher. I don’t know much about Lucy Caulkins, but I know I’d love to tell students they can’t have cell phones in schools. I’m a cog in the wheel, I can’t create that rule, and I have to work with the systems in place. But I have first-hand experience that informs my opinions. I voted for Youngkin, for many reasons, but this is disappointing. I’m looking for someone that will affect change, not appoint their friends. |
