VDOE: Next Secretary of Education

Anonymous
Looks like Aimee Guidera will be the next Sec of Education in VA.

“Guidera is the founder of the Data Quality Campaign – a national non-profit that aims to help improve student outcomes. And she also served as the Director of the D.C. office for the National Center for Educational Achievement. “

Anyone with experience with her or her company?

Does she actually live in VA?

Perhaps they have two homes? A quick search makes it look like she currently lives in Long Lake, which is a suburb of MSP. It appears as though at some point her daughter attended a school in FCPS (in McLean?) so the family lived full-time in Virginia for at least a little bit.

I don't care if she lives here or ever lived here.

She seems heads and tails more qualified than the Qarni and I welcome a fresh perspective from outside the state.

She lives in MN, not VA. She has never been an educator but she is an education consultant.

She is a fan of testing and charter schools.

Why do you think she will put education first? She has never been an educator and she has no degrees in education. She definitely is not putting public education first.

After the lowering of standards under Northam, more testing is needed.

Arlington has charter schools already -> they’re called option schools

+1000. It’s always funny when folks are vehemently against choice and then praise the option schools. I personally think they the options schools (other than immersion) should be eliminated for the same reason I don’t support school choice.

The difference is that option schools don’t divert money away from APS.

What standards were lowered under Northam?

Do option schools have to follow the same state requirements as other APS schools?

None. PP is clueless. Probably doesn’t even have kids in VA public schools.
