HS AP Class question: What other AP class to pair with AP AB Calc (not social studies ones)

There are lots of resources on the AP Central site. Here's the AP Lang course info:

Is that a very difficult class to pair with AP AB Calc? He loves math so maybe that would be a good one?

Nope. They pair well. That physics class doesn’t assume too much calc.

Isn't AP Physics a double period? OP would that work with your son's schedule?

Not OP but very invested in this thread and would not have even thought to ask this question. But needed to. ADHD daughter has poor working memory but very high IQ and good student. Straight A's for now. I am thinking of talking to her about the classes identified here as needing a lot of memorization.

Can anyone tell me about AP bio? AP Microeconomics? AP Macroeconomics? Lots of memorization. Which class is less demanding?

I know all APs are demanding but I'd like her to couple some with some that are less so. Unlike OP my child will have to do some AP social studies which I hear are difficult so looking for some "easier" ones too. No art or language please.

AP Macro is easy at my kid’s school but this probably varies. APES is a lot of work but not necessarily memorization.

My senior is taking AP Psych right now and loving it, but there is a LOT of memorization of anatomy, psychological theories, important figures in the history of psychology, etc.

AP Physics 1 is not at our school. Bio and Chem are.

My daughter with ADHD really liked AP Psychology.

My son is taking the algebra based physics AP and is not finding it that hard. He says it's really like an applied math class. He's not finding AP Eng Language that hard either. I have heard that Environment Science is not as challenging as some others.

AP Micro and Macro are each one semester, with two separate AP tests. Just something to consider.

What kind of school requires APs?

A school that probably dumbs them down a bit. My kids public HS likes to tout that nearly all students take at least one AP. They get there by making everyone who isn't ESL take AP Government. And it did not seem to be a particularly challenging class.

I don't think it is necessarily dumbing down but rather that some (most?) schools are only offering either AP U.S. Government and Politics or AP Comparative Government and Politics. They make them yearlong classes while both were designed to be semester long courses. So the course covers the same material, but the pace is less rigorous. Colleges can see that easily from the transcript.

Which other APs are meant to be only a semester? Besides AP Gov and micro and macro.

I don’t get this either since classes are a semester long in college. So wouldn’t most high school AP courses, which are taught year long, be equal to a semester long college class?
