McKinley Tech

There are some angry racist trolls these days on this forum. They were posting on the Banneker thread and I see they’re back for more.

OK, but what about the white and Asian DC kids who are? The options for those not zoned for Wilson are....what? BASIS from 5th grade or privates?

Dunno. Maybe start a thread about that instead of wasting people’s time on this thread?

Everyone does realize that even at BASIS kids score 1’s and 2’s. More kids get 3’s than 5’s? 3’s are celebrated at BASIS.

Anonymous wrote:Looking for shameful? 2% white and 0% Asian at McKinley, a magnet high school. Point this out and you're racist.

You seem confused. Most white and Asian parents who post about DCPS schools other that Walls do so only to complain about how horrible they are and how all the “disruptive” kids need to be segregated away from their brilliant snowflakes. That attitude is what’s behind the low percentage of minority kids at those schools.

DCPS schools exist to serve the kids who register for those schools, not the white and Asian denizens of DCUM who send their kids to private and claim they’d use DCPS if only there were G&T programs or a “rigorous” academic magnet.

This is useless thread If you're not a dyed-in-the wool McKinley Tech booster, you get slammed in knee jerk fashion for whatever you post. Boost away, PPs.

I haven’t seen anyone “boost” it. All I’ve seen is a bunch of racists crap all over it for not having “enough” white kids and Asians and some kids getting 3s on AP scores?

We get it. It’s not “good enough” for you and your precious Harvard-bound genius. Move along??? ✌️

Far and away the most racist crap on this thread has been directed at those who aren't very impressed with McKinley Tech.

Back to the original question:

McKinley Tech offers some great resources and we were interested a few years ago for our STEM focused child. In the end, we couldn't get past the transportation logistics of getting across town or the fact that only 30% of the school is proficient in Math. Because its a bigger school, Wilson HS actually offers more STEM courses (although DCPS wants to keep that a secret, because they really, really want McKinley Tech to be known as the STEM school).

Hardly anyone has posted anything positive about McKinley Tech. Once again, this thread has been taken over by the score obsessed white and Asian posters. No boosterism. DCUM will never get parents to speak to any HS school but Wilson and Walls because these threads get nasty fast.

Let's all pretend that the 30% proficient in math part has nothing to do with class, DC's racially segregated housing stock in much of the city 60 years on from the CRM, the WTU protecting weak teachers and lack of ES and MS challenge in DCPS for the highest performers.

Wrong. It's been taken over by chip-on-their-shoulders posters of various races who reflexively defend DCPS' chronic dysfunction.

This is true. Ask McKinley Tech about their AP CS scores. They have an IT Academy. They didn’t even get any 3’s. Only 1’s and 2’s. Some of the teachers are pretty weak. Combine that with kids who have not been prepared well by their middle school. The principal commutes from 2 hours away and has no STEM background and is also the principal of McKinley middle school.

Sounds like typical DCPS dysfunction. I think DCPS is racist if this is the best they can offer all our children (majority black and brown children).

So posters who bemoan McKinley's low standardized test scores and lack of diversity are clearly "score obsessed white and Asians?"

The problem is that McKinley Tech isn't on a par with Banneker academically, let alone Walls or Wilson at its most academic, vs. posters making factual statements on DCUM.

No the person/people keep bringing up white and Asian kids in addition to standardized tests.
