McKinley Tech

Who cares about McKinley Tech? It's just another failing DCPS high school, off the radar for almost almost all high SES families in the City. Not worth squabbling about, or commenting on test scores either.

McKinley Tech offers some great resources and we were interested a few years ago for our STEM focused child. In the end, we couldn't get past the transportation logistics of getting across town or the fact that only 30% of the school is proficient in Math. Because its a bigger school, Wilson HS actually offers more STEM courses (although DCPS wants to keep that a secret, because they really, really want McKinley Tech to be known as the STEM school).

This is true. Ask McKinley Tech about their AP CS scores. They have an IT Academy. They didn’t even get any 3’s. Only 1’s and 2’s. Some of the teachers are pretty weak. Combine that with kids who have not been prepared well by their middle school. The principal commutes from 2 hours away and has no STEM background and is also the principal of McKinley middle school.

Sounds like typical DCPS dysfunction. I think DCPS is racist if this is the best they can offer all our children (majority black and brown children).

Sigh. So tired of the Ben Shapiro clone trolls taking over this site lately.

PP, you don’t actually think DCPS is “racist”. You may think DCPS is incompetent, wrong about lots of things, or whatever, but you don’t actually think they are “racist.” You, like the many nazis and proud boys before you who make similar claims all day every day, simply want to try to obscure the reality of institutional racism.

A tech school that has only 2% of kids above grade level in Math.

Yea, that’s all I need to know. Time to move on folks.
