90% of teachers have received at least one vax dose by Nov.1 deadline

Do we even have data on how many teachers are fully vaccinated?

The WaPo article said 85%.

Also Martin Asthermuele was at some hearing and had screenshots of some handouts on his twitter feed -- those said that 3 exemptions had been granted for school staff.

That means there's still 600 teachers in our schools who still aren't fully vaccinated. Even though they became eligible for the vaccine nine months ago. And even though they're around lots of children who haven't yet had an opportunity to get themselves vaccinated. It's really appalling.

This is incredibly helpful and definitely not redundant

I don’t know why everyone seems to be missing this, but the statistic is about STAFF. That includes support staff, administrative staff, custodians, cafeteria workers, etc.

Less highly educated support staff may be more likely to be persuaded by misinformation that has fueled vaccine hesitancy. Large pockets of DC are still suspicious — in Ward 8, the vaccination rate is 28%.

It’s still a public health problem to tackle, but I suspect a smaller proportion of the vaccine hesitant are educators vs. support staff.

Thanks for pointing this out. The people who traditionally post on this board aren’t going to be affected by people being fired. Our school is 100% vaxxed. I’m sure the same is true for Murch and Lafayette, Deal etc

It’s a shame that everything covid related is so badly “marketed” communicated etc. that this is where we are. The vaccine was created by a black woman.

The statistic as quoted and reported was:
“At the Nov. 1 deadline, 79% of D.C. Public Schools staff reported being fully vaccinated, including 85% of teachers.”

So they have already separated out teachers. It’s 85% of teachers vaccinated/exempted.

"At the Nov. 1 deadline, 79% of D.C. Public Schools staff reported being fully vaccinated, including 85% of teachers.

As of Friday, Donahue said “90% of our teachers are fully or partially vaccinated.” The number does not include substitute teachers in the pool who, Donahue said, do not actually come into schools."

The statistic is very plainly about teachers.

How does this help anything? A large majority of teachers who got the vaccine in the winter were back for the end of the school year. A huge percentage of teachers are currently vaxxed and the rest will be fired. Absurd that you think that a few anti vax teachers mean the rest of us were not happy to get the vax and go into work.

I agree most teachers are good, but honestly 90% with exemptions is entitlement. Teachers are well educated (one hopes) and models for the next generation. Yet even at factories and airlines they are getting 98%. My organization is the same. It also directly undercuts the priority we all gave to teachers to get vaccinated and the teachers’ unions demands. If you feel your teacher’s union isn’t reflecting how you feel, please vote in someone who does! Currently the majority of teachers voted them in, so..

The union agreed to a vaccine mandate which is exactly what I want, so.

I'm pretty angry at the 600 teachers who will be causing such harms to their fellow teachers because of this.

What's the policy when a teacher tests positive in terms of quarantine? Do the kids have to quarantine?
