90% of teachers have received at least one vax dose by Nov.1 deadline

Finally there are numbers on the percentage of DC school staff and teachers who are vaccinated.

"At the Nov. 1 deadline, 79% of D.C. Public Schools staff reported being fully vaccinated, including 85% of teachers.

As of Friday, Donahue said “90% of our teachers are fully or partially vaccinated.” The number does not include substitute teachers in the pool who, Donahue said, do not actually come into schools."

So who is the 10%? Are they trying to say that there are 10% of teachers with religious or medical exemptions?

As a teacher I’d like to say fire them all, but that just royally screws over the rest of us when there’s no one to replace them. What’s the right thing for DCPS to do here?

Love how teachers denied my kids an education for a year+ because it was supposedly not safe, but they can't be bothered to get vaccinated. Shows how absurd school closures were.

No they are counting the religious and medical exemptions in the 90% number

So we are looking at a potential 10% cut in the number of teachers? I mean, this is completely avoidable, so I have little sympathy. It's just not a good look for them.

How does this help anything? A large majority of teachers who got the vaccine in the winter were back for the end of the school year. A huge percentage of teachers are currently vaxxed and the rest will be fired. Absurd that you think that a few anti vax teachers mean the rest of us were not happy to get the vax and go into work.

Anecdotally, we got an email from my child's charter school that one of his teachers no longer worked for the school "as of Nov 1." I think she probably wouldn't get vaxxed.

It sucks losing a teacher mid-year like that, although I agree with the mandate. I just wish they had been mandated to get the shot BEFORE the school year started to avoid this disruption (and the two months of exposure to unvaccinated teachers!)
