Throwing our puppy a birthday party!

Anonymous
We got pandemic kittens that were born March 2020 and threw them a first birthday as something to do with our kids’ pod. Apparently cat birthday parties are a thing now and there’s a small crew of kindergarteners that expect to celebrate our cats every year. It’s silly, but there are far worse things. Celebrate all the pets!

My 10 year old and I threw our dog a party and invited his best friend. We made him a sugar free birthday cake — pumpkin whole wheat with peanut butter frosting. It was fun. The other dog definitely had a WTF response to the cake. Our dog was like “I’ll eat his too….” We make clay food for the dolls, so I feel like this was a step up in practicality as it actually got eaten!

My dog and I were invited to a dog party a few months ago. The dogs ran around and had dog cake, and the humans had cocktails. It was fun. I see no issue with people having fun.

Don’t forget how they pee and poop on the floor. Thank god my kids didn’t do that .

I don't know...my dogs haven't peed or pooped the floor since they were 12 weeks old (peed only, maybe twice), but my 2 year old son recently decided to paint us all a mural with the contents of his diaper and also loves a good bath poop so I am not convinced.

I used to live in Santa Fe in an area where at least at the time leash laws were universally ignored. I had a dog who had a dog friend. One night I was out an a visiting friend was home with the dogs and let them out. They rounded up all their friends and brought them over and they had a dog party--no humans other than my friend, just dogs. She set out bowls of food and water and they hung out tails wagging.

The social life of dogs when I take my current dog to the dog park is so much fun to watch. She likes to race hard and wrestle--somersaults, jumping over each other, trying to knock each other down on the run, etc--and some dogs like that while others are more into the ball chasing stuff. She has dog friends who share her interests, they'll also stalk each other before breaking into a run. There are a couple of big, quite young, goofy dogs who are shy with the other dogs but like to roll around together.

Dogs are social animals. A puppy bday party probably makes more sense than a baby bday party.

What? NP. I’m Indian and I have an Indian friend who threw a bday party for her pupper.

Another NP Indian poster. All the Desi Bhais and Behens need to stop with this crazy disgusting over the top partying. What's with the crazy Big Fat weddings, doggy birthday parties, first birthdays, half saree celebrations,Jagratas...etc, etc. Enough already!! And this month they will also do the whole Tandoori Turkey Thanksgiving too...

I sort of want to agree with this in a "too many parties is too much!' way, but as an extroverted WASP it kinda makes me jealous! We celebrate nothing really, but I would love to be invited to any of the above, doggie birthdays included! And I am a "Thanksgiving food sucks" person, but the Tandoori chicken interests me...

Anyway, exhibit a for people who treat dogs like children.

I have 2 teenagers (human) and one dog. I do not treat my dog like my children. I’ve already done my Christmas shopping for the dog. Haven’t started buying for the kids yet.

Ha!

It's a party so that's ok but have a clean up station and lidded trash can nearby against a wall so it won't get knocked over.

Why do you assume OP has kids?

Because op is posting on a site explicitly for moms and dads?

This site is not only for moms and dads you moron. That’s not how the internet works. There are lots of childfree people here.

OP, enjoy your pup’s birthday party. My Masiff turns 1 on November 11. Can she come? 😅😅😎😎

Np that's my birthday too! Happy belayed birthday to your pup!

This describes every dog party I've ever been to.

I intend to have a 30th birthday party for my mini mule in a few years and it should be a ton of fun!
