DMV has very, very low standards for sandwiches

Also I work in Bethesda. All the delis around put alphaha sprouts in their sandwiches. I have never seen this before and it is gross. Just so gross and weird. There are seriously like 4 sandwich shops within a few blocks of my office. Boueymonger closed but they used to do it too. Subway does not, but Subway. (Alphaha sprouts are one of the few vegetables I detest). (None of them understand pickles as a sandwich topping either, except subway, but let's not go there).

I don’t find your opinion valuable. Alfalfa.

Agree OP. Food generally is bad in DC metro except for Ethiopian and maybe Vietnamese and Thai And one can only eat so much Ethiopian etc to mix it up a little.

Hoagies are an embarrassment. Wrong region, bro.

If you ever find yourself in Springfield, Sandwich Republic right at the mixing bowl is amazing. Bonus, the owners are the nicest people on the planet.

Why do so many people in this region give 4 and 5 star reviews to sandwich shops that churn out godawful messes? Maybe people here just have never had truly good breads and meats? The lion's share of shops in this region use terrible bread, then they use all sorts of nasty shredded lettuce, cheap cold cuts, and fake/highly processed cheeses to make their sandwiches and also looooooooooove to drench everything in mayo (so nasty!). Coming from Philly and NY, where they actually make good hoagies and other sandwiches, the DMV area produces some truly awful stuff that is more akin to dogfood in term of sandwiches.

Well, aren’t you a high-maintenance charmer!

Who are dogfood people? You may not like mayo but, it isn't "nasty" unless you are 12. And what else to do but accept what we have? We can't go to NY or Philly for a sandwich!

You need better reading comprehension and better quoting skills.

So funny!

Nah fam, you just give crappy 1-2 star sandwich shops 4-5 star ratings. Sandwiches in this area are trash. The bread in this region overwhelmingly sucks. It's almost always too soft, too sugary, and they almost never get their Maillard reactions right to truly bring out the optimal flavor of the bread.

Nah fam, you just don’t know how to find them. Yelp? Ffs, find a friend get a recommendation from a real human!

Vocellis does a good sub.

For bethesda poster, the mama Luisa sub is not terrible (eg eggplant parm). Bethesda poster may also want to try the deli place in the strosnider’s shopping center.

I like the pastrami sandwiches at loeb’s. I was not impressed with Duke’s.
And the lobster roll at Luke’s lobster is pretty okay.

Have had good banh mi from food trucks but can never remember which!

My question is whether any restaurants in the falls church/arlington/mclean area roast their own meat? Lazy Mike’s used to roast their own turkey and their sandwiches were good. Now they use nasty cold cuts.
