Your daughter sounds like a real peach and she's an idiot at that. No girl should ever turn down a chance to attend a service academy dance. I speak from experience. Lots of it. |
My child is there so I was at the game as well. Only Plebes are required to do push ups after each Army touch down. It’s not a typical College experience at all. It’s structure and regiment 90 percent of the time. And the only freedom they have is when they are allowed a pass to get off base. It’s a 47 month experience as they say. Summers are not free. They maybe have a few weeks off during summer. Your daughter can visit the academies for a week long summer camp during high school. My child didn’t so I can’t tell you when it is. I also got a lot of info from service academy forum |
Curious why you say "ick" to the description of the USMA/Wake Forest game? College football games I have attended throughout my life had kids puking in the stands/bathroom and some offensive chants and signs (obviously not all) - what don't you like about the WP game description? Also, I note that Wake Forest football players stood with helmets off for the singing of Alma Mater at the WP game then got high fives from cadets as they left the field - the Wake Forest team tweeted the video after the game - really great moments of sportsmanship. |

My female friend went to a service academy and had a horrible experience.
Not sure that has improved...but I guess we can hope. |
Why should she go if she does not want to? Public service? Kind of like comfort women"? Give me a break. Sounds like she knows herself, and what she was getting into. |
If you are a traditional, rah rah type. |
Impressive. I can't find the Tweet. Can someone post? |
Amazing. Thank you for posting this. |
You are welcome. In a great coincidence, the Wake football coach is an alumni of Williams College, my alma mater! So I was doubly impressed. |
| My son is in his 2nd year at USNA and loves it. The people he has met from all over the country has been an amazing experience. He has flown a plane, overnighted on a sub, participated in marine training, interesting lectures.... It's a totally different experience than a regular college and you have to be right for it. He is way busier than any of my other friend's kids with school work, military training and his sport. The independence, responsibility and discipline they learn is pretty impressive. He left the house a kid who was most of the time was woken up for school, driven because he was late, and on and on. He is now almost an actual adult - does his own taxes, controls all his finances, plans his own holidays/summers and medical care and...the list goes on. Yes, there are things he's not thrilled about (parades), but as he said the feeling of working toward a common goal and sharing this experience with the men and women in his company is incredibly powerful. They still definitely have a ton of fun too. Again, it's all about your mindset....definitely not the best place for everybody. |
This is absolutely hilarious. Wah wah, there are consequences for my actions! |
Good riddance. I've been pretty impressed by the military's handling of covid throughout the pandemic--especially including vaccine mandates and granting zero nonsense "religious" exemptions. |
https://www.foxnews.com/media/west-point-cadet-woke-curriculum She was on Fox News. I'm not sure whether she is whiny, deluded, naïve, a pawn or courageous and principled. |
