How many years ago? |
| In the age of social media, where Joe College at St. U is posting about his drunken escapades from the weekend, it leaves most cadets feeling like they should have totally chosen the blue pill after all. |
An important update! https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/03/us/west-point-cadets-goats-theft.html |
The military is basically all "traditional, rah rah" types. The service academies--and the US military in general--are not for you if you don't like this. |
Why is a "rah rah type" a pejorative? |

I went to USNA. The college experience is there but different. The most valuable part of the academy is the tight knit relationships you develop. You basically live with the 40 people in your class and company for four years in Bancroft Hall. You have a lot of shared of shared experiences. It's a strong alumni bond and one that is very valuable post graduation in any public or private career.
You have less free time than college students, especially during the first two years but there's a lot of partying and socializing, albeit in a different setting. |
Reading this made me more impressed with how West Point handled covid. |
My brother went to a military academy for college (not one of the 3 elites), and I can also vouch that it is nothing (repeat: NOTHING) like a typical college experience. It was good for him in many ways....but it was also pretty terrible. |
You must be talking about a place like VMI or the Citadel. They are vastly different than the academies. They are medieval. |
