Why would you mind if he’s eating healthy on his own? Would you much rather he eat junk so you don’t have to clean up?!

You don’t ask your kids to clean up after themselves?

I do, but I don’t mind them cooking sth healthy for themselves because they didn’t clean.

It’s not clean or eat junk food in my house.

Maybe yours is the way!

Your take on this is ridiculous and it actually explains why so many kids fail to launch. Cleaning up after yourself is a pretty basic life skill. It sounds like first PP has a kid who knows this is the expectation. And they also know how to cook. Good for them! You seem a little confused that these are both reasonable expectations to have of teenagers.

Just a thought: Your kid is capable of more than you think…

look, you have to define cleaning. It doesn’t matter how well my kid cleans, I clean better. So by my standards it won’t be clean.

You want to call me crazy, ocd, whatever, go ahead!

I will not forbid my kids from cooking because they will not clean to my standards. I prefer them to know how to cook a healthy meal rather than leave a spotless kitchen. Now basic pick up after self is expected, but that’s different than cleaning. When I get to it, I’ll teach/remind them.

^ plus, if my kid is cooking a family meal, someone else definitely has to help with clean up.

Cottage cheese is a standard for mine. And salami.

Can anyone recommend a good frozen bean cheese and rice burrito? Costco had a great one but I can’t find it there anymore. The ones I have seen all seem to have meat or veggies mixed in.
Thanks!

Amy’s or Cedar Lane.

The younger one who has a sweet tooth may sneak a scoop of vanilla ice cream in her shake. I am ok with it as it doesn’t happen every night and both burn off so much calories with their training anyway.

They are teen athletes—let them eat ice cream if they want without sneaking it!

She’s probably better off having a scoop of ice cream and no protein shake.

I’m impressed! I wish my kids were as independent and would take initiative to feed themselves once in a while.

My athlete works so hard she needs the carbs. There is such disordered eating about carbs out there now days.

Hummus and other beans on toast.

Man, 10pm is brutal. And what time do they need to get up in the morning?! Crazy.

My kids have always been lower in the weight percentiles than height percentiles. I've never limited their food and we've always had full fat dairy in the house. I try to keep string cheese, milk, yogurt, crackers/pretzels, plain cheerios, mac and cheese, peanut butter, and berries around.
