what do your high schoolers snack on in p.m.?

DCs move from school to sports to home for dinner around 7pm. They do HW and are hungry again 10pm-ish. They have been gorging on chips, smartfood, straight junk carbs. I think if we had heartier, low prep, hopefully healthier options they’d go for them so looking for ideas.

Thanks.

Hard boiled eggs. I boil a dozen a week. Also rotisserie chicken. Both my boy and girl.

Bowl of cereal.

I"m struggling with this too, with a picky eater.

I'm thinking one. week of doing slow cooker meatballs in some kind of sauce (BBQ, jelly+chili, some sort of teriyaki, etc etc to avoid boredom). Not super healthy with frozen meatballs but easy, quick, and protein heavy.

Bean and cheese burritos were a success.

I'm also thinking about chicken legs - again with differing sauces.

And that's as far as I got.

cereal
goldfish crackers
cheese
ramen
pb&j
frozen food if we have it - they can go through it very quickly
chips

Quesadillas with either bean or meat filling
Eggs
Cheese and fruit

Nuts
Cheese
Honey
Whole wheat bread
Salad
Scones
Eggs
Various fruit

A meal, like a full meal and then lighter food before bed

Key is to have good ingredients, so they’ll accept healthy things.

Mine makes himself full blown meals such as chicken, steak, veg, pasta and sauce, etc. I don’t mind as long as he cleans up (which he doesn’t always do).

Why would you mind if he’s eating healthy on his own? Would you much rather he eat junk so you don’t have to clean up?!

You don’t ask your kids to clean up after themselves?

I do, but I don’t mind them cooking sth healthy for themselves because they didn’t clean.

It’s not clean or eat junk food in my house.

Maybe yours is the way!

Turkey wrapped in lettuce is a favorite here. They eat a good amount of eggs. Apples with peanut butter.

Oldest, who is a competitive swimmer, can easily polish off the ice cream or cheese itz in the blink of an eye. I'm actually ok with some ice cream, just the entire carton in two nights.

Since when is cereal junk? There are healthy cereal options. Cheerios with banana slices is a favorite around here.

DP. The vast majority of cereal is junk food. It is just dessert with 30% or more of sugar by weight. Cheerios with banana slices is different and lot healthier.
