Mine makes himself full blown meals such as chicken, steak, veg, pasta and sauce, etc. I don’t mind as long as he cleans up (which he doesn’t always do).
Why would you mind if he’s eating healthy on his own? Would you much rather he eat junk so you don’t have to clean up?!
You don’t ask your kids to clean up after themselves?
I do, but I don’t mind them cooking sth healthy for themselves because they didn’t clean. It’s not clean or eat junk food in my house. Maybe yours is the way!
Your take on this is ridiculous and it actually explains why so many kids fail to launch. Cleaning up after yourself is a pretty basic life skill. It sounds like first PP has a kid who knows this is the expectation. And they also know how to cook. Good for them! You seem a little confused that these are both reasonable expectations to have of teenagers. Just a thought: Your kid is capable of more than you think…
look, you have to define cleaning. It doesn’t matter how well my kid cleans, I clean better. So by my standards it won’t be clean. You want to call me crazy, ocd, whatever, go ahead! I will not forbid my kids from cooking because they will not clean to my standards. I prefer them to know how to cook a healthy meal rather than leave a spotless kitchen. Now basic pick up after self is expected, but that’s different than cleaning. When I get to it, I’ll teach/remind them.
