After living in California, I am continually underwhelmed by the local Mexican fare. I miss having an awesome authentic burrito. Where can I find one in Bethesda/NW DC/Rockvile?
I have tried and been disappointed by: Guapos Cactus Cantina California Tortilla Baja Fresh Surfside I really like Uncle Julio's but my husband scoffs at how inauthentic it is and despises the 40 minute wait time if you arrive past 5pm. I also really like Chipotle, but I have burnt out on it. Plaza Del Sol, but not a place to pick up a simple burrito. I keep trying to check out Delicias in downtown Bethesda, but every time I go it is closed during its posted hours. Any leads are sincerely appreciated!

| More tex-mex than California, but Austin Grill is good. |
| I am from California, too, and the only place that I have found that comes close to a California style burrito is Chipotle. Love their veggie burrito with guac, rice, pinto beans, cheese and salsa. I get burned out on them, too, though. Have taken to getting Baja tacos at Baja Fresh. Very good--especially if you like fish tacos. Cactus Cantina is good for TexMex. California Tortilla is horrible. Haven't tried the others you mention. |
| Cafe Rio. Not sure if there's one near you but there's one in Arlington and it's worth the drive (I drive 45 min each way from Arlington to Manassas when the first one in the area opened there). It's a Utah chain that was my favorite when I lived out that way. The quality and taste cannot be beat by any place in the area. They have homemade tortillas (whole wheat or white) and mild (tomatillo) sauce that are addictive. |

Me love Surfside!!!
Have you tried Mi Rancho in downtown Silver Spring? |
| maybe try one of the places in Little Mexico in PG County? yelp it...Taqueria Tres Reyes or El Tapatio |
| If you want authentic then you have to go for salvadoran food not Mexican. Pupusas at Irene's in wheaton are great but burritos are not great most places. Los chorros also in Wheaton is good tex mex/ salvadoran. |
| Taco bell |
Love Mi Rancho in Silver Spring! I also really like Chipotle and District Taco in Arlington (but I have no idea what a California burrito tastes like. I don't really like any of the places you mentioned either though

| PP, I take that back. I do like Surfside, but not for the burritos... I love the fish tacos there! |
Irene's is closed.

No it's not-it moved to the shopping center just north of Randolph next to Staples. |
There is a Little Mexico in PGC??? Where?? |

+1 on Surfside fish tacos.
In Dupont Circle, the Well-Dressed Burrito is decent. It's in an alley off of 19th St., across the street from the Palm. (It's not marked--just walk up the alley next to Mai Thai, and it's a metal door up 2 steps on the right. Just be brave and walk on in.) In upper NW/Chevy Chase/Bethesda, the sad truth is, if Baja Fresh or California Tortilla doesn't do it for you, it doesn't really get better than that. |
