Middle middle class & lower middle class: What Middle Schools do we end up in?

Anonymous
There is thread after thread and mention after mention of parents pulling their kids from both DCPS and many charters after 2nd or 3rd grade. We all know what families with resources for private school do: they mostly go private. They tell us that here and it's borne out by private school enrollment in those grades and up in DC.

But what do lower middle class and middle middle class families in DC do? Are you the parent of an older child who wasn't in a late-stages elementary or middle school that you felt good about, and what did you do? Did you go private too? Move? What were your options and what did you choose?

How do you define "middle middle class"? What income level are you talking about?

I'd dump the class labels entirely and just ask for people with HHI's between X&Y and then Y&Z.

The labels are only going to get you in trouble here.

I make 63,000 and my child attends BASIS.

I'm going to take a guess at the fact that you aren't in the income level that OP is asking about. Our HHI is $250 and I thought it might be more than she was asking. But FWIW we are WOTP and plan on DCPS for all levels.

Why not just say, families who can't afford private.

HHI $160 and considering moving to Takoma Park before Middle School starts in 3-4 years.

We have a HHI of $90k and have two kids and did not see how we could afford to send them to private school with our other expenses. We moved across the border into Montgomery County.

We have a HHI of $170 and have three kids. We are hoping for DCPS EOP through 4th - Latin through HS.

HHI 200k with 3rd grader. Live EOTP. Was originally thinking about moving before MS, but now seriously considering charter options.

Because with an HHI of about 150, we consider ourselves middle-middle but according to a recent thread, that's incorrect. In any event, we have 3 children and can't afford private.
