And by "workout", I mean "walk". Made myself a resolution to start walking to and from work, and after 2 days, 5 miles a day, I'm insanely sore and stiff. Should I take a break, or work (walk) through it? I have NO experience with any kind of physical exertion, so I don't know the correct course of action here.
Walk through it. You will be fine.
Keep up the good work! It will pay off!
stretch, maybe take some alleve, but then get back out there! Don't wait for the soreness to go away before you walk again. You'll find that another workout will help relieve the soreness. Hair of the dog, and all that...
Pain is weakness leaving your body. Keep it up! Ice and stretch but keep moving.
Are you wearing good walking sneakers? A million years ago, when I was in high school, I did a 10k charity walk in tennis shoes, and thought I was going to die that night, i was so sore. MAke sure you're wearing the right shoes for the job! And keep at it!

You will be AMAZED at how your body will very quickly adapt. If you are very very sore, i would drive one day and give it a rest. But if you are just midly sore, then walk through it.
I also have to say GOOD FOR YOU! As a runner, who lives in the suburbs and spends 30 min in the car each morning and each evening, and then at a cubicle 8 hours a day, you are probably going to be much healthier than me if you stick to it. Unfortunatly walking to work for me would be 15 miles each way-not happening! |
You did not overdo it! Skip the NSAID / Advil. Just eat some extra protein for the soreness and enjoy it. Michael phelps swims 6 hrs a day, just sayin!
Awesome that you are doing this! Stretch, water, Motrin, some Bengay or tiger's balm and you should be fine. Your body just needs to adapt and it will take a week or so.
