Lean-In Circles

I'd love to join a lean-in circle.

Anyone doing one? Or know of anyone who is?

Are you on crack? Sandberg is the biggest opportunist out there.

What exactly is this? I know it refers to women and the workplace but what is Leaning In exactly?

Oh, gag.

+1 from what I can tell, it is a support system that focuses on leaning in and stepping up to opportunities for advancement when they are presented or possible. Trying to not be afraid of what challenges may present themselves, but to go forward and face them when and if they arise. My career followed the road they are hoping help women overcome: I pulled myself off the partner track and took a less demanding job so I could focus on having children and raising them. I think the "leaning in" philosophy would be to go forward with partner track (in my circumstances) and still plan on having children and work through the obstacles as they arise.

Again, this is just what I think it means based on her 60 minutes interview. I haven't read her book, so I would love to hear from someone who has.

I think it would be more accurate to call it Cashing In (at the expense of gullible women)

To the skeptics, how is Sandberg profiting from the circles? Book sales, ok, but to set up a circle all you have to do is say you did. Why the hate?

I, personally, don't particularly want to ramp up my career at this point, but I would love to see other, more ambitious women 'leaning in' to high level jobs. Right? What's wrong with getting more women up there? Why is it considered opportunism / cashing in?

I am trying to set one up. I am in Bethesda.

The woman is a billionaire. I don't think she needs the money.

You don't know many people with money, do you? Most don't have it because of the attitude that you are throwing off.

I am going to say this as an older woman who got married late and only has one child but I really think that Sanberg is full of shit. This is because if you do this "Lean-in" crap and focus on getting yourself ahead despite your "family obstacles", your children and society are going to pay the price for not having a mother around. They will grow up to be sociopaths either mildly or full-on.

You can never spend enough time with your kids if you are working. I am not saying don't work and get ahead but please put your foot down to working 50+ hours at the office just because there is a carrot in front you. Companies are bleeding employees dry and there will always be more indians than chiefs. I think it is a ploy to get more people to work 50 hour weeks.

At 25-40 hours a week you can do both career and family. But, anything more the kids will truly suffer. Don't get me wrong, it sucks that it has to be that way. But, kids need nurturing from their mothers and it isn't the same from dads or grandparents. I don't know why, it just is. And I for one hate to have to admit that.
