| Am I the only one outraged to find out the new assistant principal of FS in the merger with SWW will be none other than the SWW principals' wife? According to the article, the principal cleared it with DCPS but DCPS won't confirm they approved the hiring. His wife is currently a teacher at Hardy MS with no administrative experience. The principal sees no issue with this hiring.........is it me? Doesn't DCPS have rules about nepotism? Maybe DCPS doesn't know what that word means........... |
| OMG. In my last job I worked for someone whose children were on the payroll. They ran to him constantly, before things could go through the proper chains of command. And, I don't know about everyone else, you need to be able to vent about and disagree at times with the boss. Hard to do when they are married. Terrible for morale. Everyone gets that in today's world, you don't hire the wife when you are in jobs that require the trust and confidence of the public. |
Will the SWW principal be her boss? Or will she just be the assistant principal at the school that is merging with SWW? If he's not her boss there really isn't much of an issue. The truth is that it's not uncommon for spouses and relatives to work within the same company or school system. It only becomes an issue if they work in the same school building as supervisor/direct report. All of this is my humble opinion. |
| Principals do not do hiring, if this is true, DCPS hired her!!!! |
|
They are not just working in the same school system. The principal will be her boss. His wife will be his assistant principal at the school that SWW is merging with- FS. They will work in the same building. She will report directly to him. The teachers and staff will report to the assistant principal (his wife) and then she will report to the principal- her husband.
That's a big issue. |
| Even if DCPS "technically" does the hiring, it is clearly the idea of the principal to hire his own wife. Is there a better example of really bad judgment? I have worked in the public sector and it is absolutely not common practice to hire immediate family. |
Okay that is ALL kinds of wrong. Where did central office get the idea that this would be okay? There are laws that prohibit bosses from being in personal relationships with their subordinates. SO how could it be okay for a boss to be MARRIED to one?! I feel for the teachers and morale in that place. Good grief! DCPS sounds just as incompetently run as ever. By the way, where did you find this article? I didn't see it and I googled. I also meant to point out that the principals don't do the hiring. It would HAVE to go through central office. How in the world they approved that one I don't know. |
| It's in today's Foggy Bottom edition- front page. Not online- probably will be tomorrow. From the article it seems it came out at a FS PTA meeting where his wife introduced herself as the new assistant principal. The ANC commissioner was there and along with others, questioned the whole move. |
Well, I'm glad it was questioned AND made the front page. That type of bad decision making needs to be aired and called into question. I've never heard of anything so INSANE in my life!!!! The AP is the principal's wife?????? |
| I can't believe this is even legal or allowed! Isn't it nepotism? |
| And this is what happens at what is supposedly one of the best school's in DC? Holy crap. |
| The teachers at FS must be thrilled. I believe they have been told they are all out of a job at the end of the school year. |
| Very classy - fire all the teachers and hire your wife. What happened to the current principal at FS- did he get the axe too? |
| The article is great. The FS parent says he entirely trusts the SWW principal to make good decisions. Really?!? |
|
Really? I thought the FS parents wanted him as the principal to improve their school.
Reminds me of the saying......"Be careful what you wish for......." |
