Is Pimmit Hills walkable?

Anonymous
We're thinking of renting in Pimmit Hills to get more space/less money. Right now we're two blocks from the Clarendon Whole Foods. I do a lot of walking around the neighborhood for errands, exercise, fun, with the baby in the stroller. Would that lifestyle be doable in Pimmit Hills? We got by very nicely without a car pre-baby, and still don't drive often, but would like not to be a two car family (and DH would be driving to work if we were in Pimmit).

Depending on where you are in Pimmit Hills, there are a couple shopping centers with Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and other retail. You will have to cross Rt. 7 to get to the Whole Foods plaza. If I recall, the neighborhood does have sidewalks. (I used to rent near, but not in, that neighborhood about a dozen years ago, and sometimes my running loops took me through there).

Yes, if you're closer to Route 7 you can walk to the two shopping centers PP mentioned, plus another behind the Whole Foods. You can also walk to the Tysons-Pimmit Library and a playground.

There are also busses up and down Route 7 that could take you to the shopping centers in Falls Church City, or over to Tysons Corner.

The neighborhood has many parks.

As the other poster said if you live near the southern part near 7 you can walk to the trader joes, whole foods shopping areas.

If you live in the north part you can walk to the super safeway but not much else.

The northern part near the super safeway will be much more walk able after they redevelop Mcleans commons into higher density walk-able shops etc...

The picture below shows anderson road which leads into the north part of pimmit hills.

When you say SuperSafeway, are you referencing the Commons Safeway? The one in the same shopping center as Lost Dog? Or is there another Safeway around there?

Pimmit Hills has sidewalks. Most people who live there currently drive to get to most places, whether on Route 7 or elsewhere. Some who don't have cars or live close to the Safeway on Anderson Road walk there occasionally.

I do not consider PH walkable like Clarendon. It was not designed for walking. There are tiny cracker box size SFHs surrounded by McTownhouses and Apartments. There are two major roads, Dolly Madison (123) and Leesburg Pike (7) that is difficult to cross on a good day.

The library's not too far away, either - I think you could walk along route 7 to get there. The two strip centers with the Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are pretty good and pedestrians do seem to cross at the light at 7/Pimmit.

New poster here: I would agree with the above.

there are no townhouses or apartments in pimmit hills but across magarity road north of the neighborhood.

It has sidewalks but is not in an urban environment like Clarendon because it hasn't been built up as of yet. The north part of the neighborhood stands to benefit the most due to it's proximity to the mclean metro stop.

Agreed. It's the suburbs = not walkable; playing frogger on major arteries 123 & 7 = not walkable. If you move to the suburbs you're not looking for walkable though.

OP here: bummer. Someone highly recommended it to DH, but it sounds like it's not my style. I guess there's a reason it's cheaper!
