Tough Mudder is a fun race, it is not like Spartan, which is much more serious. You don't need to trail run, just make sure you can run about 6 miles continuiously and do some hill work. At night do some push ups in front of the TV and then mayve some added shoulder work with some abs thrown in there.
Anyone who is reasonably fit, or even unfit can complete this race. |

You will kill it. If you just incorporate the BOSU ball into your work outs then you will have great ankle strength (ALL runners should be doing this anyways!). Even if you get one and do it for 10 minuets before bed, your ankles will thank you. |

How is the Spartan more serious than the Tough Mudder? I just ran the Super Spartan and was thinking of doing Tough Mudder but I was a little worried about it. |

OP, if it helps, I've been trail running in this area for years (40-year-old female, always running alone) and have NEVER felt threatened. My favorite is the Glover-Archbold, which you can pick up from the Capital crescent trail (or Foxhall rd) and take all the way up to Van Ness, for about 3.5 miles of good solid trail.
The Fairfax County Connector Trail is also great. I usually pick it up by Oak marr rec center - you get to field little streams, climb over fallen trees, and pick your way through some swampy areas. It's great. |
