That's what my DH just emailed me. He does not work at the firm directly, he is a client.
Can this be true? I'm sure that someone on DCUM has better info. That's just too large of a number. My good friend from law school is an associate there. But I'm too wary about calling her to see what's going on. Thanks! |

Here. I Googled that for you:

| Did any partners get the ax? |
| The article says in DC office, 20 partners, 100 counsel/associate/admin. |
| I think there was an article in the WP today or yesterday about the budget cut implications hitting "K Street". I realize PBoggs isn't on K Street...but it is a very important lobbying/law firm that is impacted by budget cuts just like everyone else. The legal market was already terrible w/o these cuts. |
Holy shit. Do you think those affected were given notice a while ago, or is this just being sprung on them now? |
| less lawyers? Insert joke here. |
| Not a lawyer here, obviously. Now does a partner get laid off? |
| Sorry, that was how does a partner get laid off? |
| That's a large layoff for a firm that size. Once an event like this happens, a firm has to be very careful to avoid the death sprial, in which remaining lawyers scramble for other options. Partners with business leave. The firm loses focus and becomes consumed with rumors about who is next to leave -- voluntarily or involuntarily. Clients leave because they wonder if the firm will have the resources or staying power to represent them. And the spiral continues unless the firm can somehow stop the bleeding long enough to merge with a white knight. The firm already may be fu@#%d. |
| ummm - you're fired? Is it supposed to be different than when anyone else gets let go? Im no trying to be difficult, I truly didnt know that partners are fired differently than the rest of us? |
| boo hoo |
| There is no protected class in america , soup kitchen for you |
Well technical equity partners are not considered employees, they are literally owners of a small piece of the firm. |
No they are still lawyers. With law school debt and kids and ailing parents. Douche! |
