There is no indication of either of those.

Why are you jumping to conclusions without any evidence?

We don't know who in the helo was responsible, but we do know they acted recklessly.

Whoever let them out at night in the path of planes was reckless. The higher ups sure are not stepping up to take the blame, are they?

The Administration was trying to rile people up into assuming the pilot was an incompetent black woman. I don’t know how many posts I read on here and X stating the pilot was a black woman.

No. Most just assumed a woman. And they assumed right. Trump was obviously told who was senior command on that helicopter and then popped off right after on live TV.

Yes, but he popped off about ATCs, not about pilots. He suggested strongly that the cause of the crash was an ATC who was a DEI hire.

Who got the FAA director to resign?

Elon Musk.

Who terrorized federal workers for a week before this?

Elon Musk

Who fired the FAA safety advisory board?

Elon Musk/Trump

None of this has anything to do with the crash. And firing members of commissions and advisory boards is standard for administrations.

Yes, it does. They fired all those people. Then, two plane crashes.

Honestly I don’t see under what grounds they could request that and have it honored. It’s the first major airline accident in the U.S. in 25 years- of course the names of the military members involved were going to be revealed along with the manifest of everyone on the commercial flight.

A couple of days to scrub her socials, google search, public records, and who knows what else? This young lady was clearly another “JD Vance” they were grooming for high office.

I’m sure they did scrub her social media and everything else. But only to prevent voyeurs peeking at all the details of her private life. I was ROTC (and active duty) and I knew her type. She sounds exactly like all of us: classic overachiever, wants to do what is right. I highly doubt there was anything remotely nefarious or controversial on her social media. She probably knew better as an officer to even post anything of political opinion as well. I don’t know anything about flying, but I’m very confident there is no “gotcha” about her character

Not very believable at this point.

Strange how you say that about her and focus on her so much when there's still the unnamed VIP and the senior officers who let these so-called "training" missions happen after so many near misses.

She's merely a pawn in a situation created by higher ups.

I understand people voting in different ways, having different viewpoints, and prioritizing different things but I don't understand anyone supporting or accepting the outlandish things he says.

This was a tragic event and instead of caring about the people involved, he saw it as an opportunity to level unfounded and defamatory accusations and blame at individuals he didn't even know.

Can the ATC or the FAA respond to this either through legal channels or other means? What are the options to support this ATC who has been treated so terribly on a national stage?

Your don't understand USA or human nature.

I'm beginning to lean towards blaming the more experienced male pilot. Especially his last acknowledgment of sighting the plane seconds before crash as the helicopter rises into collision sounded off. I give this a 50% chance of being deliberate and 50% chance of being gross incompetence. Look at the various videos - how could the helicopter pilots have possibly not seen the jet, it had more lights on it than a ufo encountering a drunk man in christmas season. I didn't like the sound of the male pilot's voice in his last acnkowledgment of the jet before impact. It's not unprecedented, some German or Austrian freak took like 150-200 down with him some yrs ago, drove deliberately into a mountain.

Tell me you have no experience with the military without telling me…

This thread really illuminates how many people in our society do not understand basic information about the military because they have never served. Many people today have not only never served, they have no family or friends who have ever served. Thus, they have no context for understanding events that involve the military.

I understand that 70 people are dead because the military inexplicably decided to do training in a civilian area. Being that I am a civilian over whose neighborhood they train, I think I have every right to ask questions.

Same C-130s and various helicopters (some BH) go over all the time. We deserve to know. If a C-130 crashes, it'll take out my entire neighborhood.

Can someone explain how someone so young in the military was… a both a high ranking helicopter pilot and moonlighting as a White House aide?

The WH social aide gig is a prestigious thing. The ones I know went on to become a US Senator and a CEO.

Funny how the posters with pitchforks seem quiet now that she’s been named.

The PR angle of listing her prizes and awards and accolades was smart. They made the story instead of letting Trump make the story.

Interesting. Why does she need crisis PR? Do the two male victims in the helicopter have crisis PR? Why were their names everywhere and only hers was shielded for 3 days?

How would I know? Are you going to share your conspiracy theory now?

Why don’t we know the name of the VIP?

Who cares about the VIP? This pilot slammed a helicopter into a commercial jetliner. That’s all people will remember.

And why was she there in the first place? No, that's not all I will remember.

I want to know why they were training in a place where commercial airliners are landing.

Why were they training in a place where a near miss had happened just the day before?

I don't care about the pilot. Put a pilot into a game of dodgeball with civilians and people are probably going to get killed like what just happened.

Easy: she is female, they are male, and the POTUS already attacked her before her identity was revealed.

You obviously are male, since that wasn't readily apparent to you.

Oh to be a mediocre white man...

I have no military experience, but I am an American and know that a few of our most critical military targets are in DC. I'm quite happy to know that the AF and Army regularly run training exercises in the airspace above DC.

These types of exercises are to help leaders escape. They don't help the rest of us, who will be stuck in traffic when the sh-- goes down.

There was an incident less than 24 hours before the crash where a commercial airline had to abort a landing due to helicopter traffic below them. Why did that incident not trigger a moratorium on helicopter training exercises until the incident was reviewed for safety issues? How are incidents like this reported?

Yep that’s pretty serious …and then right at it the next day-/boom

It’s because there were A LOT of near misses before this one.

Not sure if this has been linked already, but NYT warned this would happen: https://www.nytimes.com/2023/12/02/business/air-traffic-controllers-safety.html?unlocked_article_code=1.t04.3N4T.eaYntbIYxAO_&smid=url-share (Gift link)

Yes, it's a highly stressful job. Receiving multiple emails a day from Elon Musk's staff saying they suck and should resign did not help this situation.

Thanks to Trump and President Musk, we have plane crashes. We're going to drink cancerous PFAS in our water, and we'll have no regulations on meat. Enjoy your listeria. You probably won't have health insurance to get it treated so hope you have $$$$ since you probably won't have a job either after they tank the economy.

That's wishful thinking on their part. How big is this helicopter?

What are they? High pressure piloting black hawks?

You probably shouldn't bother looking up her credentials because you'll just get jealous of how smart she was and all the awards she won from the miliary.

Just stay in your little bubble where it's safe.

Normal people won't hate someone for causing an accident. I know because someone in my family was killed by someone who caused an accident.

Living with the hate long term is unhealthy and doesn't do any good at all.

We don't know anything until the investigation is over.

We know they ignored the commands from ATC.

If true, then it would be the fault of the white male co-pilot who was in communication with ATCs. But that would go against the desired narrative of the trolls here that it's all the fault of the woman...
