Why does Netflix suck so bad now?

Anonymous
We have the regular Netflix service (get the three videos at a time). It seems like they never have anything except the most lamestream movies anymore, and even those are always "Very Long Wait." Everything in our Saved queue has been there for the last 18 months. What has happened to this service? I would blame it on their streaming video, but friends who have that say it's just as bad. What gives? Is there a new, better technology?

Amazon prime streaming? I have it but havent set it up yet, so I dont know myself.

Huh. We are still very happy with Netflix, both instant and mail. We also have eclectic tastes, so maybe we aren't trying to get the same super-popular movies you are and therefore aren't having to wait as long?

I think the mail version is passe. You need to go to the instant streaming. It's the bomb.

NP here. But the choices are terrible. How are the prime choices? Should I switch?

They dealt with a lot of lawsuits over the last couple years. Not to mention the hordes of customers they lost due to throttling, lousy streaming options when there are better options elsewhere, splitting their DVD-by-mail service from their streaming service, etc. Might be affecting their ability to function the way they used to.

Amazon prime streaming is not much better, btw. And Netflix does have the advantage of the Wii connection that amazon hasn't added yet. (Anyone in the know here? Are they ever going to offer a Wii interface?)

We have eclectic tastes too, but can't seem to get those indie movies anymore...maybe you have them all?

Sadly, I've had to resort to "unconventional" ways to get movies I want to see.

I am always surprised to see that instant is so popular. DH and I can never find anything very interesting. Seems old or just bad...sort og the equivalent of free Kindle books. We get it for the kids only. We get a DVD for ourselves..don't seem to have long waits and are pretty happy with it. I would ditch the instant if we didn't have kids.

It's actually quite good for catching up on TV series. Grownup ones!

I agree, though, that netflix offerings for movies is lame.

I was upset that Downtown Abbey season 3 and all seasons after will be Amazon exclusive.

For kids, Netflix is wonderful. Especially now that they have that deal with Disney. For adults, as long as you don't watch much TV in real-time or ever see movies (that's me), the options are great.

Some of their deals with studios and other distributors have expired, so they don't offer as much as they used to. They did just strike a deal with Disney, but that won't go into effect for a few years.
