Everyone agrees, this is why people are asking for citations when different articles make statements.

What I see is a media Blitz that's pushing the SY agenda.

It would be awesome if US Soccer just told ECNL "No" and made them play their hand. Unfortunately the kids are the ones that will be hurt with less competition and less opportunities.

The Nov. meeting is only a token. It looks like MLSN and EA will not change, so I feel USSF will make an "apply all" recommendation instead of mandating so that the sanctioning body goes with either SY or BY. After the meeting, ECNL and E64, possibly GA/DPL, will go to SY, while MLSN and EA remain in BY.

Let's carve your statement out. What you're saying is that.

US Club Soccer = SY (ECNL, others)
USYS = maybe SY (E64)
USSSA = don't know (GA, DPL, EA)
MLS = BY (MLSN)

In Socal email, USCS and USYS will vote the same. It is obvious they will vote SY. This leaves GA/DPL no choice, but are forced to follow through. DPL announcement already gave a big hint. No news from MLSN and SY will not do them any good, so MLSN will stay in BY. EA is 2nd team of MLSN, so EA will stay in BY as well. These are my predictions. Let's see after 11/22.

Plus clubs are starting to hear news and preparations are beginning. As a parent of a trapped player - our club has already begun to discuss our plans for next year with us and how we want to proceed.

Yes, I said that several weeks ago. For such a big change, there is no way those major parties will not discuss and negotiate before the vote. The result is already reached among those few in power.

People think this "vote" is same as the presidential vote that the result can go either way after the voting process are naive. The outcome is already on the wall and based on the hint from ECNL podcast, DPL and Socal announcement, the change will come.

100%. If it was close or not happening NO ONE esp the ECNL president would say a word.

There won’t be proof or anything to share until the vote. Clubs are aware and it’s not a secret. They are preparing on their own and figuring out. They can’t publicly confirm until the vote.

As a member of a bod - no one brings something new to the board if it’s a big decision without already knowing they have support.

Agree on letting things play out.

Sure looks like an ECNL vs GA (US Soccer) turf war to me though.

Can someone repost the SOCAL email or give reference to what page on this thread it’s on? There’s so much to dig back through…

Which one?

The real one where SOCAL was asking for feedback on a possible BY to SY change from its member clubs?

Or, the made up one by a crazy parent that wrote "So cal league" not SOCAL league?

Your choice.

To the parents of trapped players, thinking their kid will get to choose whether to stay with their current team or drop down to a team that is made up of players in their kids own grade: how do you know this for sure? Won’t your kids have to recomplete for their spot on their current team? Doesn’t it stand to reason that if this change goes through, kids will start looking around at different clubs trying to get on the best team they can? Unless you know the birthdays of everyone in the birth year before your kid’s? My kid is not trapped, but they are on the younger side for their grade. I have no idea how many kids in their grade have late birthdays and would want to come try out for the “new” grade level team. My kid is currently a starter with lots of playing time, but it seems possible they could get bumped from their spot if a lot of late birthday kids from the birth year before theirs show up at tryouts in the spring.

Unless you are in the top ~5 players of your current team, I think you have to count on having to tryout for multiple teams for next year. It might all be a dud, few changes, but it seems like only a few players can totally guarantee that this won't affect their standing on the team.

Regardless of viewpoint, it should be all or none. We don't need a more fractured soccer landscape

Not going to lie. If the change to SY is made I am going to enjoy the cycle of the trapped parents celebratory laps.

Followed by a million new threads complaining about how their children are changing clubs / bumped down teams / awful coaches playing favorites, etc as their trapped players don’t magically improve their positions with new cutoffs.

Who would you consider "at fault" if US Soccer said no to SY and ECNL went ahead and implemented it anyway?

Depends on where your trapped kid falls in the roster.

TOP 1-5: The world is your oyster. Stay up with current team even though you will have a little competition from the BY above youngers and just deal with the trapped aspects as they come. OR drop down to the SY team and be dominate while eliminating trapped dynamics. You would just have to give up a little development. This is particularly good at a club where there is variability between age groups

6-12: A little more dicey. Probably starting now but going to have competition from those in BY above so this may be more dependent on how many youngers on the ECNL and RL team a BY above. Do you want to ride the bench but practice against better players or continue to start by moving down.

13-18: These kids need to move down. It is a blessing for them as they may actually get to start on a SY team instead of getting 20min of an 80min game currently

Exactly, it doesn't matter what happens there will always be a certain parents that complain. Changing from BY to SY won't stop it.
