Where can I report a student that I suspect does not live in the district? |
If you know, for a fact, that a family lives out of state, and the child isn't a foster child, or a child in kinship care, and there isn't another parent with join custody living in DC, and the family isn't paying tuition, then maybe you should report.
If you suspect a family might live out of state, you do nothing. |
MYOB. |
DCPS has set up a hotline for this purpose. I don't have it now...I'm sure it's in the website and I know it was a question asked on the first of the two lottery chats and the transcript is on the Prepare for the Lotteries page. I agree that your suspicion should be grounded in something you can point to because we don't want investigators spinning their wheels or families being accused. But as a resident of DC, a tax payer and a parent of two young children I encourage you to report because I don't much like my tax dollars or my children's educational opportunities being stolen. And I have always suspected that the majority of the "MYOB" squawkers on here are violators themselves desperate to protect the continuation of their lies and theft. |
This. With a side of STFU. Seriously, you need a hobby. |
DCPS residency hotline 202.422.9179 |
Why would anyone follow the "advice" (bullying) of a crass stranger who uses "STFU"? You feel OP needs a hobby. I think you might need a language class or perhaps a meeting with a mental health professional who can help you with your rage issues. Be well. |
Thank you for the helpful information. |
No, you need to stop stealing, troll! |
This is what the investigation is for. You don't need to know the outcome before you make the report. Report what you know and let the process work itself out. If one of these situations is present, then the family will be cleared. |
The family will be cleared after significant stress. I should add that I forgot to add homeless families to the list, including families who are "doubled up" e.g. staying with relatives. We're often talking about our most vulnerable families, putting them through even more stress is burdensome. |
no, no significant stress. DCPS is open to DC residents. DC residents are asked to provide prove of residency every year a child is enrolled in school, and DCPS has the right to audit and verify that a child is resident. I am a resident of DC, no stress if DCPS audits us for residency, no problems in proving we are residents. it may be stressful for people who live elsewhere and use their work address in DC to cheat. |
Oh please. An investigator's first step will NOT be to confront the family. It will to look at the child's paperwork and student file. The scenarios you describe would be documented there. |
