Anyone Running the Rock and Roll in March?

If so, half or full?

What kind of mileage are you doing right now?

I do my long runs on the weekends and ran 10 on Sunday and my hammier are killing me today. This is going to be a close one for me. I loathe treadmills and I have a very small window to run outside (like 5AM) and the weather has been lousy. I feel like I'm not getting enough week day running in.

Last year I did the half and ran all through Jan/Feb outside in just a long sleeve cottons shirt and running capris. This year I feel like I'm bundled up for the Arctic.

I'm running the half. I've haven't been able to run as much as I would like because I've also recently started a lifting program that takes up two days. I've been doing two shorter runs during the week at a faster than race pace. Those runs are somewhere between 2.5 and 5 miles. The shorter (2.5 miles) are usually some sort of HIIT. I do one long run on the weekend (have been doing 10 miles for the last three weeks) but am going to up it to 11 to 11.5 this week and then 13.1 the following week. I'll probably then go back to between 11 and 12 until the race. I try to run the long runs at about 20 seconds or so slower than race pace.
I've been really bad about running outside for my shorter runs, I've ended up on the treadmill more than I had hoped. I do manage to get my long runs done outside.

I'm running the half. My long runs will top out at 16 miles but I'm an old hand trying to PR. I think if you can squeeze in an 11 or 12 mile run this week or next you'll be fine. You're probably fine with 10.

I'm not happy that they moved the start from the armory.

Doing the full - first one for me. Did a 20 mile run last Sunday. Started with a plan that had me running 6 days per week but ended up with an injury and had to take 3 weeks off.
Now running 4 days a week plus 1 day of cross training. Next couple of weeks the long runs will be 12, 20, 12, 8, Race.

I am also running the full marathon and these long runs look similar to my training plan. I run 5 days/week but don't run more than 8 miles at a time. After my 20 miler this weekend I felt like I was ready to run the full marathon.

14:10 again -- i ran this race as my first full, the last year it was the National Marathon. Some people have criticized the 2nd half of the course because its so quiet, but I liked it a lot. Good luck! And pace yourself (I didn't and ended up with lots of unanticipated walk breaks at the end).

It is beyond me as to why they had to schedule Shamrock Fest and this race at the same time. It is going to be a cluster fuck. These are two HUGE events. It think RR with spectators and racers attract around 40,000 people. Shamrock Fest pulls about 40,000 as well. Metro will be a disaster.

There are 24,000 racers alone. Race sells out every year.

Anyone have a good 20 mile loop that they have run. Can't stand doing an out and back. Looking for some new scenery for next weeks run.

How many actually ran last year?

use mapmyrun to come up with new routes or take the metro somewhere and run home. I've been running with ebooks checked out from the library. Has made a big difference

Last year was 3,155 in the full and 16,329 in the 1/2. Those are finisher numbers.

If you must run with headphones, you should use only one so you can be aware of your environment. I know its difficult for some people to go on long runs without music or whatever, but it is dangerous.
