DH wants to turn ours off at night now, but I feel I still need it. DC is 18 mos
How far away does your kid sleep from you? We never used one, but my son's bedroom is about 15 feet from mine.
Our bedroom doors are really close to our kids' so we don't have it on at night and haven't in ages. I think you're okay at 18 months. If we were down the hall or something, I may be different.
We still use one and my daughter is 3. Both my husband and I sleep very soundly and I am not convinced I would hear her without it.
Use it all the time and DS is nearly 2. When we're downstairs, to see if he's asleep or just babbling, etc. Don't plan on discontinuing it for quite awhile.
At 3 months. I realized I could here them without it. It has been in a drawer and only comes out for babysitters.
|
We still use it and DD will be 3 very soon.
I picked up on her throwing up, walking out of her bed to play and someone breaking into the neighbor's house. It will be on for a while still since DC2 is just 5 months old. |

We haven't used ours at night in almost a year (our twins are 16 months) but our bedroom is not far away so we hear them easily.
We do still use it when we're on a different floor from them - which means in the evenings until we go to bed, or when they're napping. |
We've never used one. We live in a multi-level house but all the bedrooms are on the same floor. We figure if he's that upset he'll cry loud enough that we can hear him.
Totally depends on the house. We use one with our 4 year old because we can't hear him otherwise. When he's sick at night if he cries out for us to come it doesn't help that he could walk to our room. He would cry alone for a good while before doing that so I would rather hear him.
Around 5. It was a video monitor and we loved seeing and hearing DD talk and play with her stuffed animals and other toys. It got to be even more fun when our youngest started having sleepovers in her room.
My kids are 4 & 5 and we still use one in the Jack and Jill bath between their rooms. The layout of our house has the kids room on the entire opposite side of the house from the master. My 4 year old doesn't get up until we go get her.
DD is 3 and we still use it when she is napping or after she has gone to bed but we are still downstairs. We don't use it overnight.
At about 9 mos when I realized that I have NO problem hearing her cry in the middle if the nught and there is no way I could sleep through it. If she's just babbling or whimpering in her sleep, I don't want it to wake me up so no monitor.
I plan to camouflage ours and keep them in their rooms until they graduate from high school!
