How much leave do you take each year?

Anonymous
How much leave are you allotted and how much do you use?

For me:

12 sick days given= I take all but 1-2 of them. (My job allows us to use sick days for doctor, dentists, specialist visits)

20 vacation days= I pretty much take all of them.

2 personal days= I take them both.

I work with many people who have hundreds of sick/annual leave banked. At any given moment, I have 2-3 sick/vacation days available.

That should be folks have hundreds *of hours* of sick/annual leave banked.

8 sick days-I usually take all but 2-3

20 vacation days-I take all or at least 15/year

3 personal days-I take all

We have sick days, personal days, and vacation days all lumped together. It added up to about 35 days total a year. I usually took about 30 days off. However, last year our boss changed the office policy and our time no longer carried over from year to year. We had the option of either using it up, being paid out if we had accumulated 200 hours or more, or losing it. I think I took about 45 days off last year

I'm with you OP. I have no idea how people bank so much leave.

I use all my vacation but even counting my kid's appointments I still bank a fair amount of sick leave (I think I get 2 weeks a year and probably use a few days)

PS One sick day will be enough for maybe 4 doctors visits.

By forgoing some each year. It's a milestone to get to the six weeks' cap where I work. After that, we take ALL vacation time. The "bank" is psychological and comes in handy in a crisis.

I am banking leave because it is hard to schedule vacation.

12 sick days/year. I use maybe 6

24 vacation days. I used to use maybe 15-17. Then I had kids. Now I use 20-24. (b/c of school holidays)

1 personal day. I use it!

By my estimate I take about 80 days a year. They don't track it at my office.

Im one of the people who bank a lot of leave - basically we had sick days and vacation days at work but in fact it was "frowned upon" to take those days. Trust me, there are a lot of companies and traditional workplaces out there that give you vacation days but dont love it if you actually take them!

We have Paid Time Off (PTO) and one floating holiday. PTO is used for sick time or for vacation time. We can only carry forward 10 PTO days or we lose them. I use up all my time and carry forward 10 days to the following year.

I had a good laugh - are you being serious?

My boss and co-workers are in NJ, I'm a one man show. I work half my day from home (3 hrs), walk the dog, and go to the office from 11-2, then I'm off to pick up DC from school. I work part-time.

I have 200 hrs of vacation banked, we have unlimited sick, though I don't abuse this benefit. I believe we also get a few personal days, but I only used personal leave once when our house flooded.

My current employer, like all the others over the past 20 years, combines sick leave and vacation. I just moved up to 4 weeks per year (woo-hoo). I don't think I've ever had more than a week and a half banked at any time. (my sister, the Fed, is in a use or lose it situation every year)

I'd like to use about 3 weeks of that for vacation days, a couple for me being sick and the rest for the kids being sick. Unfortunately, my group is very light on work so I'm using up vacation hours to keep my time sheet full.
