Have you had work done (plastic surgery)?

Anonymous
I'm curious to know about any plastic surgery people may have had.

What have you had done and why?
How old were you when you did it?
Roughly how much did it cost?
Would you do it again? Do you regret it?

Breast augmentation and lift (really wish I'd had a tummy tuck as well). I had always felt unhappy about the size and droop of my breasts. I was 42 Love the result! Cost $10k. No regrets whatsoever.

Nose job when I was 16. I had a big honker and didn't feel pretty. It cost $8000 back in the day. I'd do it again in a heart beat!

I'm considering breast reduction and a tummy tuck. Kind of nervous about seeming too self-indulgent though... I'm in my early 50s.

I had a breast reduction when I was 21. I had really large breasts and couldn't take the lewd comments from men on the street. After dealing with it from the age of 13 my self-esteem was next to nil. In some ways I regret the breast reduction because it made breastfeeding hard with both of my babies (although I did overcome that), it did help me gain self-confidence.

You only live once. If you want it and can afford it, go for it.

I had a reduction last summer and am very pleased with the results. It was covered by insurance and probably cost me about $1500 out of pocket - mostly because we have a high deductible plan. I wouldn't call it self indulgent to do this kind of surgery, more like taking care of youself.

That should be 'yourself'

I lost a lot of weight and had a breast reduction/lift and a "fleur de lis" tummy tuck (when they cut hip to hip and vertically up to just below the breasts, to pull in skin from the sides as well).

Had them done together in 2008. Cost about $15,000 -- I think $6,500 breast reduction, $8,500 abdominoplasty.

So happy with results. Even when my weight fluctuates, I have a perfectly flat stomach. One downside is that when I do gain weight, it has to go somewhere, so my upper arms and thighs seem disproportionately larger than they used to. But they're easier to cover than a muffin-top.

Oh wow, this is great to hear! I was always scared that if I gained even 5 pounds over time that it would just go right back to my tummy and it would be wasted. I don't even care if it distributes evenly (since lets face it, most people do gain a little weight with menopause and I am ok with 5-10 pounds, especially if it keeps my face looking young) but weight on me now goes RIGHT to my mid-section and I want it gone to match the rest of my hard worked body!

Personally, it just seems wrong to augment your appearance from the way you were born... other than for medical reasons.

I'd never consider plastic surgery for the sake of augmenting my natural self. No, I don't consider myself this super gorgeous model type. Hek, I think it'd be neat to have slightly larger breasts (like my lil sis) and a flatter tummy (but hey, i can work on that via good ol' fashion diet and exercise). Nevertheless, I'm confident in my appearance, and I consider my natural self to be beautiful.

Then again, I also have this pride complex where I'd see it as "cheating" or something to simply change the way I was born. Hell, I don't even use make-up (the biggest reasons being the pride thing and I really don't care for it). Shit, if you don't like the way I look, that's your problem... I'm not spending my life trying to please others.

At any rate, I'd never consider it for myself, and I hate the idea of people doing it for purely vain and vacuous reasons (medical, fine... self esteem, eh, I guess if you're not all that confident with a healthy degree of self pride, haha, like me). But hell, to each his own. Your money, your time, your life, whatever.

[A happy, confident, beautiful (self-perspective) 23 year old]
