Snow day

It would be really hilarious if another #closefcps incident happens just after its 10 year anniversary

Then keep your kids home. Nobody is stopping you.

Yeah and then have my high schooler get behind on assignments? Not an option. He has to go now even though there’s not a place to stand to wait for his bus. So asinine.

Yup! If I’m going to be treated like a babysitter than babysitter I will be.

I am happy to babysit my own kids while working a job with deadlines/deliverables in order to not have to deal with driving them back and forth to diff schools on icy hilly roads and dealing with extra HW BS on a weekend.
Exactly!! 2 hour delay makes lives harder for all working parents, teachers, and kids. This was an idiotic move by Reid and the surrounding counties as well

+100 Reid caved to the pressure of the screaming parents who need childcare.

I didn’t scream (or send anyone anything). I don’t need childcare - my kids are old enough. But I’m very happy they are going to school tomorrow. Not only do we not have to figure out rescheduled athletics, but they also get to see their friends and teachers after a very long break. There is no reason to keep schools closed just because it’s Friday. They can get some short reviews in.
They can see their friends and teachers on Monday. Not like they’re going anywhere.

Let’s just be done with it and go back on March 20 the first day of spring

3-4 hours of watered-down school instruction = 15+ weeks. Someone needs to go back to school more than her kids
The dramatics are hilarious. Now I know where the kids get it from

My kids aren't the ones failing school because of missing 1 day. But I can guess why yours are if you lack elementary math and logic skills.

Is it possible they will change to a closure by the morning??

They should’ve given teachers a workday to do all the grading/planning parents are complaining about and kept the kids safe. I think a large part of why parents want schools back so bad is the outrage that teachers basically get free PTO days from this haha

Exactly, it's busy work that comes with this extra "babysitting" so many are apparently desperate for. And having to get an excused absence.

This is the real issue. What happened with VDOT? It wasn’t that much snow. I seem to remember better plowing not that long ago. One year I remember we joked they plowed our street too often. We’d exclaim “there he goes again!”

That’s not an option as it’s in the middle of the work day - you are tone deaf.

ITA there is no progress on grading since school was dismissed for the Holidays. This day would have been better spent on grading vs. providing free babysitting to the parents who cannot tolerate their kids company for another day.

Once I get onto the main roads leading to my son's local high school in Fairfax County, it’s just as bad. The roads haven’t been properly salted, so there’s this thick, slick layer of ice covering everything. I’ve already seen a couple of cars struggling to make turns and almost hitting the curb. It’s honestly not safe for anyone heading to school or work. Without proper treatment of the roads, we’re risking serious accidents and our kids' lives. Something really needs to be done about this before a child gets hurt.

You can buy rock salt. Dump way more than you think you need, grind it in, wait an hour, come back. Shovel the slush away. Repeat for the lower level that the salt maybe didn’t reach. Done. You’re welcome. It hasn’t snowed since Monday evening. This is not rocket science for your own driveway.

I agree instead of just sitting behind a computer typing this response, please stand up and do your job. Schools must remain open, or else how would my daughter do AP Calculus in 6th grade? She must excel in all subjects and get into an Ivy League school. This is unbelievable and truly disgraceful to the community.

Take a day off work, then (like other parents this week).

I am a working parent and cannot take my kids to school tomorrow. They aren't going because there is no way for them to get there. Buses won't access our neighborhood that's not plowed, it's all ice and hills. And I have a meeting I cannot reschedule or cancel at a time drop off has to happen. There is no advance notice for people who have other obligations on days when school buses won't operate as normal. It's going to be asinine if schools will give absence penalties to kids or saddle them with missed assignments tomorrow. They should make it an optional day and not penalize kids who cannot make it.
