There’s a good NYT piece about why some people are so awful online: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/17/opinion/culture/social-media-cancel-culture-roxane-gay.html?referringSource=articleShare&fbclid=IwAR0mUvDz6uYlLkX4io-FllQGp-gBkJEX93KlzAwg1xWY6jA5TqkZCTPPbtQ |
DP but I'm genuinely confused why you would be offended or think that people are being "awful" for simply comparing Tufts to schools in its tier. I'm the PP who brought up Tulane - so is Tulane a better school than Tufts because its acceptance rate is lower? This to me just seems much more like a case of Tufts affiliates feeling like they should be rated above where they are and being very touchy about what schools it should deign to be compared with. What schools, then, would Tufts consider its peers? |
That's the whole point. It's not about "peers". The original question was "If you went there, did you like it? What was the draw?" Your feeling about Tufts affiliates (whatever that means) and its ratings and whatever vague sense of peer schools you think it should be in are all irrelevant. Go do something useful. |
What? Why the snark? I'm responding to something YOU said. Again, what schools would Tufts consider its peers? Is its closest peer Tulane? Not sure why there is so much anger from the Tufts boosters on this thread. |
Schools ranked anywhere from 26-35 on US news would be peer schools to Tufts so it is safe to say it is a top 35 school. |
Not sure that makes sense at all. There is a 4 way tie if you just look at ranking number..nyu, tufts, university of florida and uc santa barbara. How are these "peers". What student that has thought about this at all would have those 4 schools in their list? Peer schools need to have things in common beyond one number from a magazine. Right before are unc and wake forest in a tie and right after are u rochester and boston college. I would argue that of those schools...the obvious competition for tufts would be boston college (also outside of boston) , u of Rochester ( northern, good stem, nice campus but urban access and opportunities), wake forest (maybe..but likely too far south), I don't see the others really appealing to the same kid. |
Careful... the Tufts boosters are very sensitive about you comparing their school to lowly Rochester, Wake Forest, and BC. They think their school is peers with the Ivy League, and will be downright rude to anyone who might even hint otherwise.
|
Omg it’s the Boston college troll again! A desperate reappearance! |
This thread is about Tufts and what it’s like. It’s not about other places. But since you brought it up, BC is a muddling collehe with lower level upper middle class Catholics who couldn’t get into Georgetown or Norte Dame. Start a thread on Boston College if you’d like. |
| Carnegie Mellon is a peer in many ways |
So what? ignore unhelpful posts. I have a student interested in tufts and similar schools that would be useful to hear about in this thread. I just filter out useless garbage posts and read on. |
Agree. On the list to visit. will be hard to beat tufts in my student's eyes, but we will see. |
But dc Is the pits compared to boston. |
| Tufts is the (distant) third most prestigious school in Boston and the fourth most prestigious school in its conference, NESCAC. Tufts boosters need a reality check and stop embarrassing themselves. |
| Or maybe PP needs to be smarter. |
