Can you link to that norm and give the page number? I tried to pull the norms but the chart I was looking at did not look correct, so I was looking at the wrong thing. If 230 is 99%, what is 90% (which is what MCPS apparently is going to use?)? |
|
I’m a teacher. MCPS is using the following numbers:
220 in the Fall Or 238 in the Spring The kids must meet one of those two score. There are also 2 other required criteria. |
So 90th%? Sorry, but that is crap, particularly as our DC’s class didn’t even cover all of the material. |
|
238 in the spring of 4th is the 96th percentile, not the 90th. A 230 is the 90th percentile. Which one is it?
See page 22 of this chart: https://teach.mapnwea.org/impl/NormsTables.pdf |
Also, a 218 in the fall of 4th is 90th, not a 220 (which is 92nd) - see page 18 in that chart |
These are the numbers coming from the county. Maybe they are 90th percent in the county? |
My third grader meets that criteria - can he go straight to 5/6?!! |
Yes as long as your 3rd grader has successfully gotten A’s for all quarters of Compacted 4/5 and has earned a 4 or 5 on performance matters testing. If your 3rd grader took 3rd grade math, then of course your child cannot. |
Dear Teacher, is there an actual “because” behind the criteria fir continuing from 4/5 to 5/6? I imagine a number of kids who don’t need to repeat material may have messed up one of the 3 during the pandemic. |
I actually learned about the requirements through this thread! My SDT did not send me the information until the next day. I say this to let you know that teachers have not been included in any of the decision making- we are learning right along with the parents. The reasoning in coming from central office and has not been shared with teachers yet. Us teachers feel blindsided and like we are letting our students down. |
You aren’t but the county is. How in the world do they justify this for kids already in the compacted track who are getting good grades? It’s just mean ans so totally tone deaf. So much for equity! |
How do you know what your kid scores on performance matters testing? |
Your child’s teacher would know. Just to clarify, if you are the parent of the 3rd grader, then your child has taken performance matters testing, but not the 4/5 assessments that are required. A 3rd grader will not be placed in 5/6. |
Our MS said no changes but the names of the classes may change with the new curriculum. So there will be AIM or AIM equivalent. Kids who weren't in compacted math are allowed in AIM if wanting to try it or ready. So if a child wasn’t in 4/5 but wants to compacted 5/6 they can if they meet the scores? |
So if a child wasn’t in 4/5 but wants to compacted 5/6 they can if they meet the scores? This is definitely not true at every middle school. I think they are still working on the requirements for the advanced middle school math. |
