Clyde has been around a long time and many consider him the best girls coach ever in the area. McLean was really good for a long time when they were one of two ecnl programs in nova. That changed 2 years ago. It’ll be interesting to see if they can attract masses of players at 16/17/19 like they have in the past considering those players were usually coming from clubs now in the da or ecnl.

My kids have never played for McLean, but I've heard from several people that's he's really good.
Maybe, its his age, and he's reached a level of maturity sorely lacking from other ECNL director / coaches in the area.

Clyde is 60+ years old. I would hope so.

From what I can tell it is simple, they care. Most of the other “top notch” coaches are self-absorbed individuals that care more about their business, their rep, or their own win and loss record vs. actually teaching kids how to play soccer well. In addition to the caring, the also have high soccer acumen in regards to the proper mix of individual player skills and the dynamics of team play, where many other coaches only understand one or the other. Now having said that, Nadir can be an acquired taste as he can be a bit of a blunt jerk at times, but he does know what he’s talking about on the pitch.

Not only is that well said about Watson and Nadir, but you have summarized the difference between the vast majority of coaches out there and the very few who will develop a player. That is what leads to real development, the type we all crave for our DDs.

I think the above is true of Clyde. Putting nadir in the conversation isn’t fair. The McLean player pool will be much smaller than it was. He will have to develop some talent at some point instead of bringing in 7-9 players each year. I’ve watched Nadir for 2 years. Everyone knows McLean brings players in at the recruiting years. You’re now arguing that they do a great job developing? Sure Clyde does but the rest just recruit. Everybody knows that.

You’ll get people that like them saying they’re great and people who do not saying the complete opposite. You sound like the moron here.

It used to be fcv and McLean in ecnl and they’d get the best players from arlington, bryc, loudoun, pwsi, LMVSC, syc, sya, etc. The girls DA and ECNL expansion has changed the landscape.

Clyde has been great for a long time and cares about the kids and teaches.

Nadir has been able to pull in the best players off the reputation clyde built for McLean while they were one of two ecnl clubs in the area. MYS will be screwed whenNadir actually has to develop players instead of chucking them to the practice squad when a new player shows up. The Total Futbol coach network also helps in identifying players MYS brings in at the recruiting ages

There’s your explanation for both Clyde and Nadir. When Clyde goes, MYS will be in trouble.

I am behaving in a responsible manner for someone seeking out information to help his DD make an informed decision about where to go next. That being said, your comment is very insightful and that is not the first time I have heard such comments about MYS coaches. As a counter, I have spoken to non-ECNL coaches who compete against McLean and have respect for both coaches.

To be fair, I can't point to an ECNL coach who is recognized for developing players from the ground up. Hence, the reason most ECNL players come from outside the club. What most ECNL coaches do is take talent, win showcases and prepare players for college. It is hard to argue that anyone does this better than MYS.

NP here but you are uninformed to say ECNL coaches do not develop players. Long history in ECNL of producing talent. You certainly can’t make that case that DA coaches develop talent with only two years of history. I guess you are saying nobody can develop talent. Open your eyes.

Everything has changed. EVERYTHING!

Look at your kids age group only. Look at the player pool. If they are not on solid footing at U15 then they are in trouble. U16 is a major recruting year. There is not a lot of kids out there anymore like there use to be. It's too much to ask in the current landscape to magically turn things around.

First off, you do not win conference and national championships without being able to develop and coach teams.
Secondly, there is no elite youth soccer club anywhere that does not try to build the best team from the available player pool. For the most part, recruiting is not an active thing for coaches, it is the result of success on the field and word of mouth. It helps when coaches develop deep networks within the soccer community, and that is the case at McLean. These guys are well proven on the field, and well known in the soccer community.
