What are W schools?

But lots of people are - which is the whole reason for some people's attraction to these schools. Not everybody's, but definitely some people's. And hey, it doesn't just happen in Bethesda and Potomac - I live in the Siberian Hinterlands and have heard ridiculous assertions IN REAL LIFE about Quince Orchard (great school!) vs. Northwest (OMG gangs!!!1!!).

Yep. We are districted to QO and I had a neighbor tell me, "It's a good thing we're not districted to Gaithersburg HS. Eek!"

Many people buy homes in certain areas because of being zoned to W schools. However, the schools are only as helpful as the ability and interest of the individual students. I know a lot of people who are zoned to Churchill, Wootton and Whitman. All these students that I personally know are taking least rigorous courses that they can. It is almost funny when their parents talk about how great the schools are. And yes, they belong to the racial group that are considered high performing.

Because kids at Northwest are jumped and robbed. And it is nasty we all know that even in down county.

W's are the schools which mysteriously manage to stay segregated and under capacity.

And yet they are filled with "liberals" who despise segregation!

Meanwhile, the private school families think all of you are peasants...

And kids do hard drugs, drink and make racist remarks at Churchill, Whitman and WJ. It is concerning that everyone tries to gloss over this and act like every other school is somehow worse.

How is drinking in some mansion basement worse than smoking crack in some apt with some 20 year old freshman who barely speaks English bragging about how he banged a 14 year old in the school bathroom that day?

They smoke pot, not crack. Like you and your parents do.

Old news - there are multiple posts going back years that cover drug abuse and rampant racism at the W's.

Well when you have a drunk student wandering from that mansion party and winding up dead in the woods, I’d say that’s a problem. When coke is at the parties I’d say that’s a problem. When coke is used as a form of hazing for sports I’d say that’s a problem. When parents are complaining about it being in schools I’d say that’s a problem.

So even though it’s still happening doesn’t matter? Of course not bc it’s a W school and everything else is worse.

Why are they higher? Better teachers?

Tutors

Better parents

Not sure about “better” parents but definitely more education focused parents and kids.

Nope. But parents can do things in the W districts to give their kids advantages. Tutors, red shirt kindergarten, more enrichment, etc

Um, no. Whitman is 100s over capacity, WJ is bursting.
