OP, your daughter is going to love Einstein. Great school, great community!
OP here, I'm being completely genuine I promise, me and my daughter are both excited. Einstein is wonderful, I really do love the school, and it has a great dance program. I was truly curious about the W schools and why they are such a big thing.

We can't afford to send my kids to a W school but I have nothing against them. If I could afford to send my kids there I would do it in a heartbeat.

I commend the parents who live in places like the townhouses & condos around Montgomery Mall, who will sacrifice living in a much larger home in a not-so-great school system, just to be able to send their kids to a better school.

While I can't send my kids to a W, I happen to agree with the poster who said that the majority of the "we hate W schools" comments come from parents who can't afford to send their children there & are envious/jealous.

Yes, there are a lot of presumptions with the W schools. We can afford those areas, but chose the DCC for a number of reasons. Very happy. OP, don’t let DCUM get you second guessing. Kids seem very happy at Einstein, and I know several who are not so happy at Ws (although of course many are).

Parents at the W schools can afford enrichment & tutors to help supplement their children's education & there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

My children didn't attend a W, but each at some point in their high school careers struggled/needed some help... and you can be damn sure that when they did, we figured out a way to tighten our household budget & found a way to pay for their tutors.

ALL mcps schools have the same curriculum, whether your child goes to Whitman or Wheaton, they are ALL learning the same exact work.
Additionally, every school in MCPS has strong teachers & all have bright, intelligent students, no matter what the school or their SES is.

It's a matter of being able to afford to supplement their child's education with enrichment & tutors - especially if they feel like their child may be falling behind.
Parents also provide enrichment in hopes of their child scoring higher on exams like the SAT's.

What an odd statement... what does that even mean?
There are miserable kids in every single high school, in every single state in America (including DCC (gasp!).

Being an unhappy, awkward or hormone raging teenager has absolutely nothing to do with race, religion, socioeconomic background or the high school that they attend.

Anonymous wrote:They are public schools in Montgomery County.

Walt Whitman
Winston Churchill
Thomas Wootten
Walter Johnson

Notice they all have a W in their name. They are on the West side of the county and tend to have less economic (and therefore racial) diversity than the other schools in the county.

Wooten is a W school now? From my impression, they are Whitman, Churchill, WJ, and B-CC

Dear OP - people whose children are as serious about academics as your child is about dance tend to choose W schools whenever possible, unless they gain acceptance to a countywide magnet program. It sounds like you chose well for your unique situation. It will work our just fine for your family, just keep dancing.

Wootton has always been a W school.

Why are they higher? Better teachers?
