I never did this. But it's possible that she underestimated the time that she would be gone. Maybe she was thinking 20 minutes tops. But it turned out to be closer to an hour.

When she wound up being gone longer than expected and the dogs begged to go out, maybe the kids (who were likely used to walking the dogs at their own house) put the dogs on their leashes and took them out for a walk.

I'm not familiar with Rehobeth streets. Is the street that they were on a main drag or was this a residential beach neighborhood street?

I'm really glad I didn't get arrested this summer - I'm sure I left my 11 year old in our beach rental alone while I took my 8 year old to Funland. Of course, I leave both of them home alone regularly (the 11 year old more than the 8 year old, but even still, he has been by himself several times). I still don't see how this warrants an arrest, unless something way bigger than what has been reported was going on.

Was your 11 year old running the streets after a dog to the point they were running in front of cars? Do you really not see the difference between your 11 year old who was home in the rental watching tv during the day and a 9 and 8 year old running around after big dogs they can't control, near dark, with no parents around for the last hour?

The travel team sports moms and dads could spin off an entirely new series. The recently divorced moms in their 40s would be the most fun with their online dating antics...or sleeping around with dads from school.

I'm watching RHONJ right now, and it's a yawnfest. The real life drama in 20832/20833 is far more exciting.

eh, if this was a typical residential low traffic beach neighborhood type of street....that changes the "danger" level of the whole thing. Not sure what all happened there.

I had a dream last night that DH and I ran out to the store leaving DD (age 4) at home by herself. I was panicked to finish shopping and get home to make sure she was okay. No idea why we left her, I joined the dream in progress when we were at the store lol.

My brother and I walked a block to a little store on vacation when I was probably 9 and he was 8 in DE (this was in the late 80's, and after we raided our parents car for change to buy candy). At 10 I was babysitting my brother and sister (who is 7 years younger). By the time I was 12 I was babysitting for neighbors and 13 when I started looking after infants as well. I will admit I was VERY mature at a very young age (my mom always says she would've be comfortable sending me to college when I hit 10).

Since DD is still so young no idea when we will leave her alone in the house for the first time, definitely not for a while. Kids running through traffic after a dog in what people are guessing is an unfamiliar area (my family has been going to the same DE beach since before I was born, my brother and I knew the area very well at 8/9) isn't good. I don't think the parents should be arrested, but can you even fine them for something like that?

My parents and I spent our winter break in Poconos in the late 80s. They would lock us at night in the room to go to adult activities. I was 7 brother was 4. I was not scarred by this in any way.

Would you leave your rising 4th grader alone in charge of his third grade sibling while walking 2 large dogs in a beach neighborhood that isn't where they live? For 2 hours+? Many people are saying 5 miles up Rt 1 would take about an hour- and how long was she planning to stay before the cops arrested her? There's a lot more here than leaving your 4th grader in his house while you run to Giant.

Have you been to Rehoboth? Rented a beach house? I'm assuming NO since you make it sound like they were in Antacostia!

I would have left mine home alone too. Rehoboth is a quaint little beach town. Very safe!
