Do you secretly judge parents by their strollers??

WOW... no wonder there is so much prejudice, ignorance and hatred being perpetuated in our country today... look at all of you out there that judge people based on a stroller! This was my first time on this site and it will be my last. I hope you don't teach these behaviors to your kids. Some of you moms need a hug!

Although, I do sometimes wonder about the decision to go for the Bugaboo. I'm too scot to spend that much (or ask someone else to do so).

But I do form opinions about the use of strollers. ;->

physically capable children in strollers past the age of 3 = strong correlation to why childhood obesity is skyrocketing.

children snacking mindlessly in the stroller, and not just for *A* snack between meals, but endless snacking to placate the kid = another reason childhood obesity is skyrocketing (I only have one kid, so it is a little easier for me to actually stop and have snack rather than eat on the go; I realize life is different for other families and circumstances)

Your comment suggests you actually don't realize life is different for other families. My son has been underweight since birth and won't eat anything - he gets whatever he's willing to eat, whenever he's willing, even if it's "mindlessly snacking in the stroller", which is when he's most likely to eat.

Ha..you feel sorry for ppl that push around a Graco? Are you kidding me?

I have always loved Metrolite for the size of it's basket as I live in a $2million house which is walking distance to Whole Foods.
We also own a beautiful rowhouse in NW. I am a size 4, my kids are blonde, blue-eyed and have continually be asked to model, my husband is a serious hottie, I have a fantastic family (including a great MIL), our HHI is $500k+, I WAH 100%..making 6figures with complete flexibility, no debt.

Really- I don't need your sympathy.

It's kind of scary that you take pride in the fact that your children are blue-eyed blondes.

Different than taking pride of a stroller? I don't make fun of kids with different cor hair or skin---nor do I judge them or their parents by the stroller they are riding in.

Since my hair is dark brunette it is quite impressive.

The OP asked if we secretly judged parents by their strollers. I answered on an anonymous forum.

I also judge people on their political views, what school they went to, the shoes they wear, etc. Everyone does this in their minds.

Have you walked in DC lately? Uneven bricks, tree root eruptions, old curb stones with no wheelchair cut: it's bad for just walking! The metro are just as bad; I hate getting stuck in the gap at the platform with one of those little wobbly plastic wheels. Maybe in the better parts of town they have wide, newly-paved sidewalks, and if you never take Metro then you'd be great. But not so in many areas.

my city mini cost me $200 and can handle all that
plus its a one hand easy fold...perfect for the metro
you don't need a $600+ stroller for all that

We received a Bugaboo as a gift from family. Other than for taking walks around the neighborhood, I found it unwieldy and heavy. I ended up giving it away and using a city mini around town and a super cheap umbrella stroller from Babies R Us when we went to stores because it was smaller/easier around tight areas. I have no idea why someone would judge based on your stroller. Who cares? People need to use whatever is practical for their daily usage.

I got a MacLaren (sp?) as a shower gift and ended up selling it on Craig's List b/c all I ever wanted from square one was a simple umbrella stroller for $19.99 I could store easily and quickly in the back of my small car and be done with it. So, after I sold it on Craig's List, I took the $ and went and bought the stroller and other things I really preferred.

OTOH, if you see someone with an okay house and an amazing stroller, chances are you can guess how they do, economically. Probably not as well as they would like you to believe.

Very few people I know CHOOSE to live in a smaller or lesser house for the hell of it. Many I know CHOOSE a "lesser" stroller because doing so is part of their long term savings plan. Some call it prioritizing.

this is bull
we have an hhi of 200+k
spent 360k on our house in a nice, quiet, safe, ethnically diverse neighborhood
schools are good but not 5 star
we are walking distance to parks and a short drive to metro, shops, and restaurants
max out both our 401k's, contribute yearly to roths, our child has a 529 and we still dump money into extra savings plus pay off our professional student loans (we both have masters degrees and then some)
we drive 10+ year old cars
and our stroller costs less than $200
go figure

I have never seen a Stokke in real life outside of the stores.

Wow. I know one couple with a Bugaboo. They are some of the loveliest people I know, but they are seriously materialistic (must have latest gadgets etc.)

I have a Maclaren Techno because it has several positions, so I figured I wouldn't need a different stroller when the baby learned to sit up, and because people told me it held up well on urban streets. I do think, as a previous poster noted, that if you don't have a car and walk a lot, you do need something that is sturdy. My California relatives are shocked by any expenditure over $100 on a stroller, but they only needed strollers to wheel their kids from the parking lot into the mall.

We have a joint HH income of over $350K and are highly educated - we have a $20 umbrella stroller and we barely use it

PP who spend that much on a stroller are stupid.
