I think it is also geographic. We just moved here from Manhattan. Everyone in Manhattan has a Bugaboo, Orbit, Stokke, Uppa Baby and a second stroller like a City Mini or Maclaren. We also had an expensive stroller and a travel stroller. Your child traveled around the city in the stroller. We often avoided riding cabs and subways and would walk everywhere, even in the rain and snow.
Now we mostly use our $20 umbrella stroller from babies r us. It is easy to take in and out of the car. I've seen very few bugaboos around here since it would be totally impractical to take it in and out of the car. |
omg a bugaboo is 1200 DOLLARS!??!?!?! wtf. |
You guys, this thread is old. Not only is it old, it was the subject of a very amusing article in the City Paper a year or so back.
Please. Stop. Or I might die laughing. Here, read this instead: http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/articles/40290/dc-mommy-fight-site/ |
The one Gwyenth bought for Blue Ivy was $800. It was black- for those who care ![]() |
Who are all these losers bragging about their incomes and the prices of their homes? And especially the one bragging that her kids are blonde and blue-eyed to boot! Truly pathetic. Get a life. |
They really aren't comparable. Uppas are way lighter and way easier to fold. We're looking at the Cruz precisely because quality and easy foldability is a big priority for us, as is roomy storage on the bottom and being able to have our baby facing us. We don't give a damn about status, Bugaboos (which are prob great for urban areas but are too heavy and cumbersome for our purposes), or if strangers think we're rich. Condescending Bugaboo owners who prides themselves on that fact are either insecure or shallow or have nothing more important to care about (or all three). Too bad for you; we're comfortable in our own skins and have self-worth that goes way beyond our stroller. So are the people we choose to be friends with, who have all kinds of strollers (and some of the really wealthy ones love their Gracos - not all people with money are into flaunting it. Again, inner confidence...). |
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Bumbleride. What category does that put me in? ![]() |
Well, we got our Maclaren Volo on Craigslist for $40. It was recommended as an umbrella stroller by Baby Best Buys. Who cares what is trendy or not? |
Yup. And I also think people must not realize there are other options out there. You can buy strollers in places other than Toys r Us and Walmart and for a bit more you might get a LOT better. |
You won't actually see those of use with Bugaboos pushing the stroller, the nanny will be. |
I actually knew someone with a Bugaboo and it wouldn't fold and the wheels fell off. If that makes anyone feel better! |
Sorry about reviving this thread, but just could not resist for a number of reasons. I am from Eastern Europe and by no means rich, but worked in DC and had a baby here in the US. As we did not drive and as high quality stuff costs so much more in our home country, I figured I would buy a good versatile stroller to take home with me. I got an UB Vista, and did use it a lot, but it did not work as well as I expected as the sidewalks are REALLY bumpy in my country ![]() I loved the maneuverability, the basket and the canopy, but folding was tricky and the bassinet was small and I hated the "legs up butt down" full recline. And the handle broke down after about 18 mo. of use on the rough terrain. What made me write all this? We lived in GT and I spent $150 on a trainee doula (which I regret as this led to an early arrival in hospital and more interventions, but I had a complicated L&D so she just wasn't experienced enough, she still was a great help) |
What does a trainee Doula have to do with buying an Uppa baby? |
How about this... I've got a Bugaboo and a $20 umbrella stroller. Guess what? I use the umbrella stroller way more often. |
I lived in Ireland for a year and everyone there seemed to have very expensive strollers/ prams/travel system/pushchairs,etc. or really high-end like Maclaren umbrella strollers. Now in my hometowm huge Graco, Baby Trend and Chicco Travel Systems Rule! Along with cheap umbrella strollers. In my opinion strollers in Ireland and Europe, look so much nicer, have better features and are classy compared to what I see at home back in small town USA. The other day I saw these two trashy dressed, Ghetto, low socio-economic looking woman walking together pushing their children in a Stokke and a Maclaren in my local Mall, I almost had to double take! It did just not add up and made me wonder how they knew about or were able to afford those types of strollers from the way the looked and acted.I guess in a way I was judging, ![]() |
