When Trump debates Biden they had both secured the delegates to be the presumptive nominee. That is not true of Kamala.

DELEGATES: 1,976 needed for nomination
HARRIS: 3,359🏆
UNDECIDED: 39

Harris is a much better nominee than Biden and she has a better chance of beating Trump but I'm not going to pretend as though Harris earned the nomination in a traditionally democratic way. Biden screwed the party and the country with his last minute bail out. It should have happened much sooner so that we could nominate someone through the usual process that involves the American people. Biden's legacy is destroyed as he has given the GOP a talking point to counter our "democracy hangs in the balance" talking point. Shame on you Joseph R Biden!

SHE IS NOT THE OFFICIAL CANDIDATE!

Jesus! What is WRONG with all of you??

She sure is if everyone that matters says she is. What else would make sense to you?

It’s a courtesy to Kamala since the last debate forced our President out of the race for vague reasons.

I can only assume from his words that the Almighy had a word with him.

You know that makes Biden a prophet.

Prophet? Biden is a complete embarrassment to the Dem Party. His selfishness and greed for power robbed us of a chance to nominate a candidate the right way and to nominate a candidate that would be a sure thing to destroy Trump. Shame on Joe Biden.

So why is Trump chickening out?

If you read the release, it says he is waiting until she is the nominee. She is the presumptive nominee currently. Candidates don't debate presumptive nominees.

What exactly is he waiting for? The agreed upon debate date is September 10th, a month AFTER the Democrats would have chosen their ticket. Why issue this release at all?

Probably just highlighting the fact that he already debated one candidate who dropped out; he doesn’t want to do it again. Why waste his time?

He wouldn't be debating anyone that could drop out, because, as has been pointed out repeatedly, the debate is on September 10th.

She can’t drop out? Why not?

Because if she drops out after the convention, whoever is at the top of the Democratic ticket cannot get on ballots. Those deadlines are coming up shortly. Ohio has already threatened this, which is why they're officially nominating her on August 1st and holding the convention later (Ohio walked that back, but no one is taking any chances).

So basically, he didn't have to issue this presser at all. He could have just sat tight until next week to be 100% sure who he will be debating. So he either needs the attention, or he is genuinely not planning to debate her.

No one in the Dem Party agrees with you.

Any true Dem and any true American agrees. I'm sure Harris is smart enough to agree as well even though she benefited from Biden's last minute eff you to the country. I'm a Harris fan but only a fool could ignore the historic wrong in how her nomination is coming to be. It isn't her fault. Biden is 100% to blame. If not Biden, whose fault is it?

There was a debate agreed for September 10 with a specific format between Trump and Biden, that ignored the Commission on Presidential Debates. Biden withdrew from that debate.

There has never been any debate agreed between Harris and Trump, and that remains to be negotiated. A week ago, people were asking about a debate between Vance and Harris. and the Trump campaign replied they were waiting to see who Harris would nominate for VP.

Trump isn’t doing anything useful with his time. She’s the nominee for all intents and purposes. Trump is $hitting his pants right now.

It makes no sense to agree to a debate with the rotating cadre of non-candidates that are being trotted through the media now.

The Republican nomination process is over. The Democratic one is anyone’s guess at this point. Maybe keep your pants on until the Democrats actually nominate a presidential candidate at their convention, assuming they can pull that off.

It’s either going to be a unanimous coronation or a confusing dramatic mess, knowing how the Democratic Party likes to roll.

wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong. Repeat after me: IT DOES NOT MATTER who the other candidate is. The norm is to hold debates. The schedule and preparations should be made regardless of what names ultimately go into the slots for who is debating. He has NO legitimate reason to dodge that.

Trump is scared, it shows, and everyone knows it. It has absolutely zilch to do with whether Kamala Harris is "official" or not.

Exactly. If Trump weren’t afraid he’d talk about his plans for the country as often as possible.

Like you have any clue. Seriously some of you people are out of your minds.

Actually, the Trump campaign (specifically Vance) would not agree to a debate because there was no guarantee that Harris would be the VP candidate.
And, as it turns out, it looks like he was right.

Now, the Trump campaign will not commit to a debate with Harris because, once again, there is no guarantee that she will be the official candidate.
Pretty smart of them if you ask me.
